The only thing I can think of this morning is that David should be leaving soon to go back to Chicago and I can go back to trying to get over him. I had done so well over the last year, and then a few days ago all of that progress faded and now I’m back to phase two where I know he’s gone and that the chances I have with him are gone also.
I didn’t bother to get out of bed, so Evelyn came in and crawled on the bed next to me and laid back on my other pillow. I just roll on my back and sigh and we both stare up at the ceiling. “So, what are you going to do today? Just sit here and do nothing all day or are you going to actually get up and do something?” She asks and I just sigh and shrug. “The fair is today. We could take Marley and get some cotton candy and funnel cakes and possibly diabetes if we worked for it.” I turn and look at Evelyn and I can’t help but laugh.
“Diabetes sounds pretty delicious right now.” I quip and she just laughs and nods. “Okay, well go to the fair today.” Evelyn claps and we both hop out of bed and I hurry to the shower and get ready.
After we are both ready and Marley is tucked tightly in her car seat and locked in, we hop in Evelyn’s car and we are off to the fair at the waterfront. It takes a bit to find a place to park, but we finally do and while Evelyn gets Marley I grab the stroller from the trunk and set it up before she walks over. Once Marley is locked in, we make our way down the path and slowly make our way through the booths and games they have going on.
Evelyn found some booth that was selling baby clothes that the woman sitting down had made so she quickly veered off and left me to walk where I pleased. I just continued through until I reached a hot dog stand and decided to order some water for us since we didn’t bring any. I sigh and wait my turn to get up to the line but it doesn’t seem to be going any faster than before. I just groan and toss my head back and wait.
I feel a shoulder bump into me which makes me turn around and immediately throw out obscenities. At first I feel kind of bad when some guy with brown eyes looks at me apologetically until the man who actually bumped into me turned around and then I didn’t feel so bad.
“Addison. Wow, didn’t think I’d see you here.” Evan had that same smile as he did that night and I just wanted to slap it off his face.
“Yeah, I had hoped Seattle was really big enough for the both of us, but I see I stand corrected.” I rebut and then turn around and shake my head.
“Hey,” Evan steps up next to me and puts his hands in his pockets. “About that night, I’m really sorry. I didn’t meant to piss you off any. I was drunk, and no that is not an excuse I literally turn into a playboy after I’ve been drinking. It’s not one of my best moments.”
I sigh. “Oh, I agree it truly wasn’t.” I say and face forward again.
“So I suppose you know that David went back to Chicago.”
I turn and stare at him and narrow my eyes. “Why are you telling me this?” I hold up my hand. “Forget it, I don’t want to know. Look, just leave me alone all right?”
Evan sighs and stares at me. “Addison, you playing like it doesn’t hurt you isn’t going to help you get over him any faster.” I close my eyes and shift my weight then finally step forward a foot so the next person in line can order their food. “I know my brother better than anybody. He’s gone, Addison. And if he comes back, he’s not going to be the same David that we both know now.”
