Epilogue

Once again we find ourselves gathered at the vacation house in the middle of summer. Evan was down at the dock fishing with David and Bill while Madge, Sheila, Evelyn and I were getting lunch ready. Marley walking around hanging onto the chairs at the table and Madge walked over and picked her up. Evelyn smiled and then took the jug of tea outside to set on the deck.

                Sheila handed me the chicken and I had to stop before whatever I ate this morning almost came up on me. She looks at me and furrows her brows. "Are you serious? This is the third time today." She says. For the record, yes we put our differences aside.

                I shake my head. "What's wrong?" Madge asks. I look at her and she nods. "Oh. Have you told him?"

                "Not yet. I'm going to today though."

                "You better. If you throw up he's going to wonder what the hell happened." Evelyn says walking over grabbing the chicken making sure to walk away from me so I don't get sick.

After lunch, Evan takes me down to the dock before the rest decide to join and he sits down on the planks and dips his feet in the water. I sit down next to him and lean back on my elbows. "There aren't any alligators or anything that is going to come up and like bite my leg off is there?" I ask and he laughs.

                "No, there aren't any alligators that are going to bite your leg off."

                I nod. "Okay good." I sit up and clear my throat. "Because that would be bad for the baby." I bite my lip but quickly let it go when he looks at me. I raise my eyebrows.

"The baby?" He asks and I smile. "You're- We're having a baby?" His smile grows so wide I can't control my laughter as I nod. He grabs me and smashes his lips to mine. "I'm going to be a daddy!" He says excitedly and starts to stand up but loses his balance and falls in the water. I cover my mouth and stare and he quickly jumps up, spraying me with water. "I'm okay! Because I'm going to be a daddy!" He yells. I start laughing and before I know it, he's grabbing my arm and pulling me down with him.
