-1 Year Later-
Evelyn was already running late and I kept telling her to leave already but she wouldn’t go. Dad had to push her out of the house practically. “Okay I’m gone! Thanks again, Addison.” She calls and rushes out the door to hurry to work.
Baby Marley sits in her little swing with a giant toothless smile on her face as I play with the bottle before I pop it in her mouth. “God your so cute kid. No offense, but I’m kind of glad you’re my niece. I would probably die if I had to be a parent right now. But it’s okay, because I got you!” I say in a baby voice and she just smiles up at me. I sit back in my chair and Mom walks over to the table and sits with me. “So what are you guys doing today?” I ask.
Mom shrugs. “Dad wanted to go out on the boat so I’ll probably join him and make something for her while he fishes.”
I nod. “Sounds fun. I have to do some running and she’s running out of diapers and formula so I volunteered to buy this time. Hell, I’m basically her second mom. I steal her from Evelyn all the time.”
Mom laughs. “I don’t think Evelyn would last without you.”
I smile and look at Marley. “Yeah, you’re probably right. I spoil her.”
“You always have.” Dad says and sits on the floor and plays with Marley.
Mom and dad sat with Marley while I got ready and when I was done we were both packed up and in the car driving to the store while mom and dad went fishing. We park in a stall close to the door and I hop out grabbing Marley in her seat and her diaper bag and carry her in. I stop when I see a Mercedes in the next lane over and then shake my head and keep walking into the store. I grab a cart and set Marley in the front part and we were off.
Walking through the store, this child was like a parent magnet. Everyone came over to see the baby and then the crazy people tried to touch her and I had to pretend to be a psycho mom and tell them to back off. So what if I got a few dirty looks, nobody touches this kid!
I make my way around and hit up the formula isle and stare at the different ones. “What do you think, Marley? Gentle for tummy or regular?” She laughs and kicks her legs. I smile. “Right, regular so when you poop mommy has to clean up. Look at you thinking outside the baby box.” I place the formula in the cart and travel to the next isles and grab the diapers and wipes then stop over by the clothes and start sifting through some outfits that I thought would be adorable on Marley.
“Addison?”
I look up to see who said my name and I see David walking down the main isle. He walks over and raises his eyebrows. “David. Hi.” I say and just turn my attention back to the clothes and keep looking through. “What brings you back to Seattle?” I ask.
“Vacation actually.” He says I nod and hold up a shirt to Marley. “She’s beautiful.”
I smile. “Of course she is! She’s related to me.” I say and Marley laughs so I tickle her tummy.
“You look really good, Addison. Like you’re doing well.” David says.
I sigh and nod. “Yeah. I am. I started school and got my nurses certification. Working at the nursing home until I get my externship at the hospital.”
