Evelyn marches into my room and jumps on my bed. I groan and pull the duvet over my head and turn over trying to get back to sleep. “You need to wake up it is almost ten and you have plans for tonight.” Her voice is too cheery and I want to hit her.
I throw the covers off my head and turn to face her. “What the hell are you talking about?” Evelyn smiles. “What did you do?”
“Oh nothing, just managed to get us tickets in to see some local band at a bar tonight. You and I are going out and having fun tonight damn it. You need some fun in your life.” She raises her eyebrows at me and smiles.
“I have fun.” I rebut and then quickly realize I really don’t have that much fun. The most fun I’ve had consisted of a minor make-out session with David yesterday. She stares at me. “I could use some fun in my life.” Evelyn smiles. “God, get rid of it!”
“Get rid of what?” She asks confused.
“Your face! It’s too smiley.” I say and hit her with a pillow making her scoff and hit me back with it but we both just laugh.
I get up out of bed and walk into the shower and start it up so I could get ready for the day. Evelyn walks out shutting my bedroom door behind her and I step into the shower. By the time I’m out and ready, she has lunch waiting which is just a pizza she ordered from our favorite pizza place and had the television set to the football game we had recorded earlier this week. I walk downstairs and grab a slice of pizza and a beer and join her on the couch and we watch the game only getting up for more beer.
The game comes to half time so we take a quick break and while Evelyn starts making popcorn and dip, I stock up the fridge with more beer. My phone starts ringing so I grab it from the counter and answer it without looking at the number.
“Talk to me.” I say as I usually do.
“Addison?” It was David.
I smile. “Hey.” It fades. “Wait, how’d you get my number?”
“You’re my employee. I just had to look at your file.”
“You’re at work on a Saturday? Don’t you ever take a break?” He stays silent. “Well, anyway. What’s up?” I crumble the empty box down and open up the second one.
“I was hoping you would be free tonight. I would like to talk more about yesterday. If that is all right. If you’re busy I can wait.”
I look at Evelyn and she’s busy on the other side of the kitchen. “Actually, I was supposed to go see a band tonight with Evelyn at some bar. Not really my scene, but if you’d like to join you are more than welcome.”
David laughs. “Kind of hard to find the bar not being your scene.”
I shake my head. “No, not the bar. The band.” He’s still laughing. “Whatever, after a few beers you’ll see what I mean.”
“Oh, so you just expect that I’m going?”
“Well I was hoping.” I finish putting the last of the beer in the fridge and shut it then begin to crumble up the empty box.
“Oh, is that David?” Evelyn asks and rushes over. “Is he coming with? Tell him to meet us here!”
“Would you shut up?” I hiss and push her away from me and walk away.
