You couldn't believe what you were seeing.
This day is supposed to be so special.
It's your girlfriend's birthday and you've tried to make it as special as you possibly can.
But something has come along to ruin it, something neither of you could've ever expected.
Your relationship has been exposed.
The world officially knows that you're together.
It meant that the world knows that Rosé is taken - and happily so.
Needless to say, it's the most talked-about thing across social media and a lot of the things being said aren't the nicest.
You didn't know this day would go so wrong.
Or, in particular, the birthday dinner you treated her to.
You took her to her favorite spot in the city.
Even better than that, it was only the two of you.
No one else was in the restaurant.
No one else was allowed to be.
It was just the two of you and a few people that worked there.
With that being said, someone that worked there leaked everything, and there's no way to deny anything because you were both completely unaware that anyone was watching and capturing photos and videos.
You shared kisses, sang her happy birthday, shared some food, and treated her like the queen that she is.
Now the photos and videos are everywhere on social media.
There are news articles sharing the photos, fan accounts posting screenshots, and people have even found your socials which was yet another way for them to ruin Rosie's special day, as she's seen some of the comments and could only shake her head in disappointment over the things being said by people.
"I'm so sorry."
Those three words broke the silence between you and, instantly, Rosie lifted her head to stare at you.
"I just wanted to make your birthday special. It's what you deserve. I didn't know anyone would leak everything. I feel so awful."
"Don't feel bad, y/n. There's nothing for you to feel bad about." She said as she put her hand on your thigh.
You put your cheek on her shoulder without another word and closed your eyes, trying to shake off the worries you felt.
"It was bound to happen someday. I mean, I always wanted to be the one to say it. I never wanted it to happen this way. I thought I'd wait until the day we were set to be married or something."
You smiled a little, listening to her every word.
"I know I'm an idol and all but I'm also just a person and I wish I could have the same privacy everyone else gets. I wish people would treat me like a normal person sometimes, especially when it comes to my relationships. I know some people aren't going to be happy and I'm sure we'll lose some fans over this. I love our fans but I want to be happy and you make me happy; happier than I've ever been before. I deserve that, right?"
"Of course you do, my love. You're still a normal person at the end of the day, just with an extraordinary life." You softly spoke as you turned to look at her. "I'm sure a lot of your fans are happy for us. I'm sure there are a lot of genuine fans who adore you for who you are and only want you to be happy. It's just hard to see over the negativity right now. But I'm confident that, eventually, they'll get louder and make sure you know that they love you just the same."
She nodded in agreement and even cracked a small smile as she thought about the fans who were being supportive, hoping she'd stumble upon some of their tweets and posts sometime soon.
"People will adjust. It's all so new and so sudden. Despite us being together for over a year now, it's all been between us and the people we trust. So it's a shock. But it'll pass. We'll get through it together... right?" She spoke softly, her brown eyes staring deep into yours.
Although you both knew this day could always come, it's still hard to handle your privacy being invaded and spread everywhere for the world to see.
She was a little scared about it. She's trying to stay positive but those negative thoughts keep creeping into her brain and she, understandably, needs that reassurance from you.
"Of course we will." You promised as you intertwined your fingers with hers. "We can get through anything together."
You kissed her forehead and watched as she closed her eyes, melting over the sweet and comforting brush of your lips on her skin.
"No matter what comes our way, we'll be okay."
"And you know I'll always do my best to keep you safe? That I won't let anyone hurt you? I'm sure people will start following us and crowd around us when we go places but I won't let them touch even one hair on your head."
"I know. I'll keep you safe, too."
She smiled a little brighter and gave your hand a squeeze.
"At least we don't have to be careful and always look over our shoulders everywhere we go now that the world knows we're together." She said.
"Guess we didn't do the best job of that today."
She laughed in response.
"It's still early in the evening. Please tell me you still feel like celebrating your special day a little more."
"With you? Absolutely." She smiled, melting your heart.
"Good. Be right back."
You left the room and returned a moment later with a cupcake and a candle in the center of it.
"Surprise." You smiled as you put it in her hand.
You pulled her long hair away from her face, gently taking the strands into your hands, and then kissed her neck a few times.
"Make a wish, beautiful. Anything your heart desires."
She just shook her head and blew the candle out, making you frown.
"I don't need to wish for anything when I've got everything I need right here with me." She smiled and pulled you in for a sweet kiss.
"I just hope the world sees that soon. You're the love of my lie, the one I'll marry someday, and no matter what, I will never let you go." She said as she shared her cupcake with you, still enjoying every second of her birthday despite what happened because she's got you by her side.
