Ch. 17
"Good morning," Charlotte said as she walked into the kitchen where Daniela was standing at 11:30 a.m.
"Mmm," Daniela hummed, not looking up from the magazine she was flipping through.
"Okay, what's your deal?" Charlotte asked, pouring a glass of apple juice for her to drink.
"Well, neither Christian nor I really appreciated it last night when you ditched us for Calum and Ashton and Luke and Michael," Dani said, closing her magazine and looking at Charlotte.
"And exactly how did I ditch you?" Charlotte asked, crossing her arms and leaning on the kitchen island.
"Chris said you told us to leave and you'd get your own ride home because you wanted to spend time with your 'best friends'."
Charlotte scoffed, "That's definitely not what happened, Dani. I swear. Christian was acting extremely bitter and awkward when we were talking to the guys, and he texted me pretty much telling me to hurry up, and I told him if he wanted to, he could go. Apparently he did and took you with him, but Calum and I were having a really good conversation so I wanted to talk to him and then Chris texted me and said, and I quote, 'Daniela and I are leaving. Find your own way home.'"
"Suuure," Daniela responded, rolling her eyes and closing her magazine. "Why should I believe you?"
"Oh my God, are you fucking kidding me?" Charlotte breathed, throwing her hands in the air. "Why should you believe me? Maybe because I've been your best friend for years. Maybe because you trust me enough to live with you. Maybe because I've never told you a single lie, so why would I start now? I can show you the texts between us if you really don't believe me."
"Whatever. I'm leaving," Daniela mumbled, grabbing her purse and walking out the door, slamming it behind her. Charlotte groaned loudly and went to grab some food from the fridge when her phone dinged from her bedroom. With a piece of cold pizza in her hand, she retrieved it and saw she had a new text from Calum.
CALUM
"Sorry our conversation last night took a weird turn..."
CHARLOTTE
"It's fine! I was going to reply, I just fell asleep. I was exhausted. But you remember how I told you everything that Dani said?"
CALUM
"Oh god what happened now"
CHARLOTTE
"She told me that Christian told her that last night when we were at the venue I told them to leave and I'd find my own ride home bc I'd rather hang out with my 'best friends' than them. I told her what really happened (about the texts between Christian and I and everything after that) and she was like 'why should I believe you?' so I kind of exploded and then she left."
CALUM
"Why doesn't she believe you? And why is she getting all butthurt about this?"
CHARLOTTE
"That's the thing- I don't know."
CALUM
"Wanna meet for lunch and talk? We certainly have a lot to discuss. I'll be at McDonald's in ten minutes, come if you want."
Charlotte sighed and ran her fingers through her hair. Seeing that Calum would be at the restaurant in just a few minutes, she walked to the bathroom and got ready. She left the house fifteen minutes later and drove to McDonald's, where Calum and Michael were sitting in a booth with a tray of food between them.
"Hey, Charlotte," Michael smiled, waving as she walked into the building. She sighed and returned the smile, walking to where they were seated. Calum scooted over and allowed Charlotte to sit, which she did and placed her head in her hands.
"Why are girls so stupid?" she said, throwing her head back in frustration. Calum chuckled and Michael looked at her confused.
"You should be able to answer that, you are one," Michael said, and Charlotte faked a laugh. "What's going on, babe?"
"Daniela," Charlotte mumbled, pulling her phone out of the pocket on her shorts and placing it on the table.
"Have you heard from Christian at all today?" Calum asked, taking a bite of his burger. Charlotte shook her head. "Have you tried texting him?" Charlotte shook her head again, picking at her fingernails.
"No, but I should," she mumbled.
"Okay, I'm obviously missing something," Michael said, sitting back in the seat and crossing his arms.
Charlotte sighed and explained the entire situation as Michael listened closely.
"That's ridiculous! What the hell is going on in their brains?" Michael asked loudly, almost yelling.
"Shut up, Mike," Charlotte said, gritting her teeth. "This really isn't something I want all of Sydney knowing."
Michael was about to speak, but was interrupted by Charlotte's phone going off. She looked down and saw a new text.
CHRISTIAN
"Bitch."
