Ch. 25
When Charlotte arrived back to her apartment after spending the rest of the day with the guys, Daniela immediately ambushed her with questions.
"What do you mean you like Michael? How could you like Michael? Does Michael like you? What did you say to Christian?"
"Woah, okay, slow down. I don't know what it means, but I think I do. I don't know, I just feel different when I'm with him. He makes me all smiley, and I feel safe. Maybe it's because he saved my life once and he could do it again, I don't know. But I do know that he made me blush today just by winking at me, which doesn't happen. You know that. And I doubt he likes me; I mean, why would he? He could have literally any girl in the world, so why would he choose me? And about Christian, he confessed that he was in love with me, and... I need to go talk to him," Charlotte rambled, turning around to go out the door again.
"Char, it's almost eleven at night. He leaves early in the morning; he's not gonna want to talk to you right now," Daniela said, grabbing onto Charlotte's arm before she could dash out the door.
"I don't care what he wants, I need to talk to him," Charlotte said, ripping her wrist from Dani's grip and getting into her car again. She drove to Christian's house, millions of thoughts flooding her mind. What if he hates her for not liking him? What if he hates Michael because she likes Michael? What if he never wants to see her again? What if he makes Daniela mad at her again, too?
"Charlotte?" Christian's mum asked as she opened the door to her house.
"Hi, I'm sorry to be here so late, but can I speak to Christian? It's urgent," Charlotte asked, stepping into the familiar house and turning to speak to her best friend's mother.
"Um, he may be asleep, but you can go in his room and see. I think he was trying to rest up before his flight to Los Angeles in the morning," the older lady explained, leading Charlotte to Christian's bedroom. Charlotte slowly and quietly opened the door to her best friend's dark bedroom, finding him lying on his back in bed, staring at his phone. He quickly looked over at the door and furrowed his brow when Charlotte walked into his room.
"Charlotte? What are you doing here?" Christian asked, locking his phone and throwing it on the bed next to him.
"I'm sorry for coming so late, but I really need to talk to you. Is that okay?" Charlotte asked. Christian nodded, so Charlotte turned on the light and closed the door, then came to sit on the edge of his bed.
"What's up, Char?" Christian asked, sitting up and leaning against his headboard, the blankets pulled up to his waist, revealing his shirtless, toned torso.
Charlotte took a deep breath, "I'm sorry, Chris. Earlier I just, left. I feel bad about doing that and just kind of leaving you there. I just didn't really know what to say, and honestly, I still don't. I mean, I don't feel that way about you, and I don't think I ever will. I'm sorry. I don't want things to be weird between us, though; I want us to be the best friends we've always been. So are we good?"
Christian chuckled and got up to hug Charlotte. "We've been good. I understand why you left the way you did; I kind of just laid it all on you at once. But I'm glad you know. And it's not your fault that you don't love me, I mean, you can't help who you fall in love with."
Charlotte let out a breathy laugh, "funny, that's exactly what Luke said."
"You told Luke?" Chris pulled back from her and looked into her brown eyes.
"Y-yeah. But he and Calum and Michael and Ashton already guessed that was the reason you were upset, so I just kind of confirmed it," Charlotte said quietly, scared he was going to get mad again.
"So you told all of them?" Christian asked. Charlotte looked down at the floor and nodded.
After a few seconds of silence, Charlotte looked up at him, "are you mad at me again?"
Christian took a deep breath. "No... I'm not. I'm sorry, Char."
"I'm the one who's sorry. I feel like I've said that a lot today," she chuckled as Christian sat next to her and wrapping his arm over her shoulder. Charlotte laid her head on his shoulder, and he rested his head on hers.
"You look tired, you should probably go home and get some sleep," Chris said after they sat in silence, again.
"Yeah, and you need to sleep, too. You're leaving tomorrow. I'm gonna miss you," Charlotte said, standing up and pulling him in for a big hug. He hugged her tightly and kissed the top of her head.
"I'm gonna miss you, too, but I'll be back before you know it. Now go home, Char, and get some rest. I'll text you in the morning. Love you," he said as she started to leave his room.
"Love you too, Chris, sleep well and travel safely."
