Ch. 28
"Hey Charlotte, hey Mi- wait, Michael?" Daniela asked, coming out of her bedroom the next afternoon. Michael had just woken up with a horrible hangover when Charlotte came out of her bedroom to get him up and see how he was feeling.
"Hi," Michael mumbled, laying his head on the kitchen counter he was sitting on a stool in front of. Charlotte was standing on the opposite side of the counter, drinking a glass of water and setting one down for her red-headed friend.
"Is he okay?" Daniela said quietly to Charlotte while going through the fridge in search of something to eat.
Michael groaned loudly, "No, I'm not okay, now can you stop yelling?"
"Oh my Gosh, Michael," Charlotte chuckled softly, "we're not yelling. And I can't help that you're hungover, so please just stop complaining."
Daniela grabbed a carton of eggs and some cheese out of the fridge and a skillet from the cabinet and proceeded to turn on the stove and make scrambled eggs. Michael groaned again, taking a sip of water and downing some Ibuprofen Charlotte gave him. His phone started ringing and he groaned loudly, again, and covered his ears.
"Good God someone make it stop!" he yelled, laying his head in his hands.
"Michael give me your phone," Charlotte said calmly, holding her hand out to him. He quickly whipped it out of his pocket and Charlotte answered it so he would calm down.
"Hello?" she said, putting the phone to her ear.
"Charlotte?" Ashton asked on the other line.
"Yup, that's me," she smiled, taking Michael's hand and leading him back to the couch, where he laid down and buried his head in a pillow.
"Where's Michael?" the curly-haired boy asked.
"Right now he's lying on my couch suffering from a terrible hangover. Do you need him for something?" she asked, picking up Michael's feet and sitting on the couch before laying them across her lap.
"Okay, so that's where he went last night," Ashton mumbled. "Uh, well, we were supposed to be at the studio an hour ago."
"Oh my, I'm sorry, I didn't know," Charlotte said, rubbing her hand on Michael's calf, making him moan quietly.
"It's not your fault," Ash chuckled. "Do you think he's well enough to come do some writing or recording?"
"I doubt it, but I can ask him," Charlotte replied. She took the phone away from her face and patted Michael's leg. "Mikey, do you think you can go into the studio today?"
He groaned loudly, but sat up and ran a hand through his hair. He shifted and laid his head in Charlotte's lap and stared up at her. "I'd rather stay here with you."
Michael took her hand and started playing with her fingers, before interlocking them with his own. "Please, Char? Don't make me go. I don't feel good."
Charlotte sighed and felt her heart flutter. "Mike, you need to go do your banding or whatever you guys call it."
"Noooooo," he groaned, placing her hand over his eyes. "I don't feel good."
Charlotte put the phone back up to her ear. "Ash? He said he doesn't feel well, so if it's okay, I think he's just gonna hang out with me today." Michael gasped and smiled up at her, mouthing a 'thank you.' She nodded and smiled in response.
Ashton let out an irritated sigh. "Can I talk to him for a minute?"
Charlotte passed the phone to Michael, who took it and flinched when Ashton started speaking.
"Yeah, I know... Like a million times... Probably never... Whatever... No, Ashton, I feel like shit... Yeah whatever, see you tomorrow... Yeah... Okay, bye," Michael said, holding his hand over his eyes.
"What'd he say?" Charlotte asked, running her fingers through Michael's red hair.
"He was all, 'you're not supposed to get wasted the night before we have to work, how many times have I told you that, when are you gonna start listening,' blah blah blah," Michael mocked, making Charlotte chuckle.
"But, wasn't he partying and drunk, too?" Charlotte asked, continuing to play with Michael's soft hair.
"Yeah, but... I don't know, he just likes to think that he can make us do whatever he wants and the 'rules' he make don't apply to him. It's stupid, but whatever. I'll live, and so will he," Michael smiled, staring up into Charlotte's brown eyes.
"So, now that I got you out of going to the studio, what do you want to do all day?" she asked, shifting slightly.
Michael groaned, "I don't know... We could watch movies, eat junk food, and sleep all day. I would say we could play video games but I feel too shitty to do that."
Charlotte laughed, "Well, I guess that's a good thing, because I don't have any kind of video games here. So movie marathon?"
"Let's do it."
