Madison

My name is a sunshine blonde

With weightless curls

Cowboy boots, jean shorts, and a T.

She's light, like a cloud,

In both mind and soul.

That's how I know

This name's not for me.

She lives in Florida

With blue music in her eyes

Almonds so bright

Made by the skies.

Everlasting light

Shines on her skin.

Life like Tucks,

Goes on forever,

Beyond time

Because her existence is within.

The Earth,

green and lively, is her.

Be still my beating heart.

Broken many times,

But not fully torn apart.

A dance for my grandmother

In her youth.

Energenic, up beat.

Move sideways, back,

Let loose your feet.

A road between two others.

New, fresh, but less traveled upon.

Too long, far gone.

Lit like the blush sky had

When Aphrodite kissed

And man called it dawn.

Mama and Kelly

Went to New Jersey.

Madison Lane, Madison Avenue.

Stuck between the streets,

Anastasia and Taylor.

Madison, the exit route.

The only way out.

In traffic

Hear the horns resonating shout.

Or maybe it’s more than one…?

I’m not sure.

I was not born.

Not yet…

On the beach.

Water, a friend,

Despite having many,

Loses touch frequently.

Sand, who clings desperately,

Never wants to be alone.

So, I pick up a conch,

A carved souvenir

By a red merchant fish

And use it as a phone.

I close my eyes

And I’m already home.

It’s in the streets

With my grandfather

Drowning in the smell

Of sour beer

After war.

Mom asked if he was okay

He said, “Great.”

“Are you sure?”

Mom got a yes

But he wasn’t.

He couldn’t be saved

Next up, my cousin.

I helped.

Knew he had to be home.

Wrote a poem.

Gave him hope.

Super and his hero’s weren’t alone.

In school

When I felt so proud.

Name down in chicken scratch

A written form I called beautiful.

Back when my only battle

Was opening Scooby snacks,

Cracker jacks,

And I took naps when my tummy was full.

“Madison” because it’s lovely;

A gentle giant if you will.

Independent 7 letters.

A painting

Abstract, yet still.

Pride and prejudice.

Unshakable; so strong

Beauty.

That’s why

To me…

This name

Should not belong.

And I guess,

Maybe that’s why I have it.

It’s unique on me.

Madison is the only person I can be.

I am part of her,

And she’s part of me.
