We are told at a really young age that good people go to heaven and bad people to hell.
But before they have to pass through the purgatory. Where pure souls are lead to eternal rest and the doomeds punished prior the abyss.
So, while we are on the plane of the living, we try to do good deeds and be fair to prevent the worst. Even though some people have bad intentions. Like making noble things just for the picture.
When we think about this it's possible to find similarities to the after life.
What if we already are on the purgatory. Where we have to prove we are worth of going to heaven.
We have no idea of our situation, so it can be truthful.
The reward is a peaceful stay until we are purified and the punishment is a life in jail, where people suffer daily due to their actions before going to hell for eternety.
