I stand in the garage waiting for the elevator.
It's an old building, the engine has lost most of it's efficiency years ago. That normally wouldn't annoy me, but it's late and I've been working all day.
The door opens with a screeching metal sound. I press the 7th floor, where my apartment is, and the close botton.
I wait for the elevator to go up, but nothing happens. I let out a curse under my breath and press the bottons again. This time seems to work, as the cabin starts to move up.
I lean back wanting to crash in the bed for the rest of the night. But as a way to test my patience the elevator stops again and starts going down. I curse again, this time a little louder.
The garage is the bottom level, having only a pit where the elevator rest when it needs repairing. That's where it stopped.
The doors open reveling an entrace. The lights go on one by one throught the corridor and a rotten smell hit me.
I nervously press the buttons, trying to get the door to at least shut. Nothing seem to work.
My panic rose as steps start to be heard. They started slow, like whoever was on the other side wasn't sure of whether or not to approach. An inhuman shriek echoed throught the hall, along with the sound of something running with both legs and arms. It wasn't a rhythmic sound like an animal would make, you can hear it was uncoordinated.
I pressed my back as far away as I could, still trying to get it to work. Adrenaline was rushing in my veins with that thing getting closer every second.
When it should be only a few feet away, I had extended my arms in a shield, the door closed and a loud slam hit it.
The elevator ascended as it continue to shook at the violent strikes.
I pressed the garage button and once the door open I ran to my car and sped out of that place.
The next day, with the sun high in the sky, I got back to pack my stuff.
After walking 7 rows of stairs I see my door, with a note taped to it.
" Hi, it's the land lord. Please pass by my office once you read this. I don't know that that thing is either."
