Abby's POV
The night dragged by. I tried my hardest to get over the fact that Jeremy had brought us to one of his old hang out spots where he brought his ex. And especially on a night that he knew she would be there.
That was the only explanation for why he was so nervous. And why he turned whiter than a ghost when he saw her.
What was I going to say? How was I going to go about acting as if nothing ever happened? I cant tell you how many questions are rushing through my head right now. Should I even ask him? Or should I let it go?
"Whats the matter?" I heard him ask. I guess that means that I have been staring at my food too much. Rats.
I looked up. "Nothing. Just thinking." I shrugged. At least it was partially true.
"Bull." I looked at him just in time to see him roll his eyes. "I can tell that you are hiding something. What is on your mind?"
"You really want to know?" I asked him.
"Yeah. Tell me. Whats on your mind." He set his fork down and prepared to listen to me. That was a first. Any other guy that I dated seemed like they never cared enough to listen let alone pry me for info.
"Ok." I sighed. "You asked for it. I want to know why you brought me here when you knew that she" I gestured toward Shelby, "was going to be here."
He swallowed visibly. "Well, I didn't really do it on purpose. I guess you can say I did it out habit." He looked down at his plate as he finished the sentence. I could see that he was turning red. Blushing.
"Habit? How can you bring your current girlfriend to a restaurant that you and your prior girlfriend attended on Saturday nights regularly?! Am I the kind of girl that just fills in the slot until she comes crawling back to you?? Am I the girl that you use to make your ex jealous? Cause if I am then I don't think this relationship is going to go very far."
I could feel my face getting hot from embarrassment. How can he treat me like this? Am I really that gullible?
"Excuse me. I need to go to the ladies room." I could see shock and awe in his expression now. He only sputtered an answer as I excused myself to the bathroom.
Once inside, I slowly watched my own expression. I blinked away all the unshed tears. I washed my face with some cold water to cool it down a little bit and when I was presentable again, I started toward the door. Before I could grab the handle the door swung open to let in Shelby.
"My my, look what the cat dragged in." She tisked me.
"What? You?" I threw back at her.
She just smiled back at me, in the way your enemy would smile at you before they stabbed you in the back. As she walked towards the sink she started chuckling.
"What do you think is so funny?" I couldn't help but ask.
"Oh nothing. Just laughing at Jeremy's new flavor of the week, that's all."
