Chapter 16

My jaw felt like it hit the floor. “Mikey. What are you doing here?” How is it so ironic that I open the door to him after talking to my mother about him this morning?

“I'm here to see your mother. But how are you?” He asked.

Ignoring his first question, I asked, “Why are you hear to see her?”

He cleared his throat. “Well, if you must know little Abs, then I guess I will tell you.”

“Don't call me that.” I told him as my skin crawled. He knows I hate that name.

“Anyways, I am here to try to apologize to her for what happened between her and my father. Since, of course, he cant say anything from jail.” His eyes seemed to catch fire.

“Well, I'm sorry, but I don't even think she is here. I think she is on her way to work. Ill let her know you stopped by. Do you want her to call you or something.” I asked. Trying to play it off cool.

He smiled. “I guess.” He reached in his pocket and my heart rate sped up. But when he came out with a piece of paper and a pen. He scratched down his number and tore off the corner that he wrote it on. “Have her call me please. Tell her she wont regret it.” He reached his hand out and brushed his hands down the side of my cheek. I shivered in disgust. “I sure miss you Abby.”

I backed up and shut the door, locking it in the process.

Leaning up against the door, I sighed out. I wouldn't let the tears get the best of me. I have had enough crying. Just as Mikey pulled away, I heard another car pull up and the car door open and close. To be sure it was Jeremy, I looked through the peep hole and saw him walking up to the door. I sighed in relief and swung open the door and jumped in his arms.

I started crying and I could tell I caught him off guard. He stumbled for a minute, but then his arms came around my waist. When he realized I was crying he started to shush me like my mother did and was telling me everything would be alright. He walked me backwards into the house and closed and locked the door behind him. He partially picked me up and walked me into my room. Laying me on the bed he just held me. Let me cry. That was twice this morning, that I have broken down into tears. Great.

When I calmed down, he looked down at me. “Whats wrong Abby?”

I couldn't help but see the hurt in his eyes. He was hurting because I was hurting.

I couldn't not tell him what happened.

“When I was 10, my mother had just remarried to her second husband Mike Juts. He had already been married and had a kid as well, named Mikey, who was 18 at the time. He seemed that he loved my mother. He is the one that is now in jail for hitting my mother and why she and I are now here.

“Everything was great for the first year. They seemed to love each other and they even did almost everything together. Well, one Saturday they were away grocery shopping and Mikey came and knocked on my door. He asked to come in. That he just wanted to talk. I didn't see any harm in it. I opened the door and he and one of his friends opened the door and pushed me to the bed.” I sobbed.
