"paschalíta." I whisper softly as I gently unbuckle Asteria from her car seat. (Ladybug)
She doesn't wake up as I pull her fully out of the seat and get her adjusted on my hip. I decide to let her stay asleep, knowing it will be easier to get through the airport with her sleeping soundly.
Her arms lay limp at her side, her legs bounce as I close the door and walk around the car. The tiny pigtails in her hair tickle my neck as her head rests on my shoulder.
I walk around the car, that doesn't belong to me, but my best friend, Charlie. My car has already been shipped over to New York, so he had to drive us. Luckily he takes care of Asteria a lot so he already had a car seat in his car.
"I am going to miss you so much." Charlie sighs as he shuts the trunk of the car and sets my suitcase on the ground.
"I know, it's not going to be the same without you." He circles around me and helps me put my backpack on.
One perk of moving so far away, is that I don't have to manually move all of my stuff, everything is getting shipped on a boat and will already be in New York when I get there. But the downside of that is it costs a lot of money, so I had to sell a lot of my things just so I could ship what I needed.
I get teary eyed as I hug Charlie goodbye. I've lived in Chicago all my life, and me and Charlie met when He moved in the apartment next to mine.
He has been there for me every step of the way, through the rough parts and the incredible parts and moving away from him is not going to be easy.
"It's not going to be the same when I can't go right next door to your apartment to ask for food." He smiles sadly down at me.
I chuckle softly, "I honestly don't know what you'll miss more. Me? Or my food?"
"Oh, you're food one hundred percent, then this little peanut." He kisses Asteria's head, and a lone tear trails down his cheek. "Then you."
I laugh as I wipe my tears away. I feel Asteria shift in my grasp and she lifts her head up.
"Mama?" She murmurs, her big brown eyes stare up at me through her long eyelashes.
"Yes, moró?" I brush her curly flyaways out of her eyes. (Baby)
"Where are we?" She rubs her eyes with her small fist and looks around her before her eyes land on Charlie, "hi Uncle Charlie." She flashes him a tired grin.
"Hi, peanut." He bends down so they are eye to eye.
"We are at the airport, moró. Remember we move today."
"Oh." She looks down sadly.
"Hey," Charlie nudges her chin up with his knuckle so she is looking at him. "What do I always say? Mhm?"
"Princesses never let their crown fall." Asteria says, her r's sounding like w's.
"That's right, peanut." He plants a kiss on her temple and I pull the handle of my suitcase up, "now I will call you everyday, and visit over the holidays."
