I rock anxiously back and forth on my feet as I watch the doctor look over Calitheas wound.
Priya and the girls just left the room after making sure that everyone was okay, and now it's just the three of us alone.
"Luckily, the bullet didn't hit any major arteries and she will only need stitches." Evan, our personal doctor, says.
"Thank fuck." I slide my hand down my face and exhale a sigh of relief. I walk over to her and take her hand in mine,
"How many?" Cali questions.
"It's a nice sized wound so your most likely going to need around 20." Evan says as he pulls on a new pair of gloves and prepares the lidocaine injection.
Calithea nods her head and looks over to where Asteria is playing with a blown up latex glove. "Mikhail, can you watch Asteria while I get stitched up."
"Of course." I nod my head and give her hand a squeeze. I look down at her plump lips, wanting to give her a quick kiss, but I decide against it.
I walk over to Asteria and lift her giant purple headphones off her ears, "hey, sweetheart." I whisper in her ear.
I gently place her headphones back on, she looks adorable in them. They are larger than regular headphones and reduce noise so she isn't so overwhelmed.
It's been a long night and it's almost 2 in the morning, we tried to get her to go to sleep but she is wide awake after everything that happened.
"Hi, Mickey." She holds her hands out to me and I scoop her up, carrying her out of the room and downstairs into the kitchen.
"Do you want dinner?" I ask as I open the fridge to see if we have any leftovers.
"But it's not dinner time." She tilts her head and waves the blown up glove around.
"Are you hungry?" I ask, setting her on the counter as I pull out leftover mashed potatoes, turkey, gravy, and green beans.
"Mhm." She nods while focusing her attention on the latex glove.
She is still very out of it, which is completely understandable. What she went through could leave her with a lot of trauma. I don't want to push her to talk, but I want to be able to help her.
"Are you okay, Asteria?" She doesn't answer, instead she looks everywhere but me. "You know you can tell me anything. What happened tonight was very scary, and you were very brave. But I want you to know that it's okay to cry."
She whispers something under her breath but I can't hear her. "What was that, sweetheart?"
"Uncle Charlie says that princesses should never let their crowns fall." Her r's sound like w's and its adorable.
"Well, he is right." I lift her chin up so she is looking at me, and it breaks my heart when I see her eyes watering.
"Oh, Asteria." I lift her into my arms and hold her close to my chest, "it's going to be okay."
