CHAPTER 01 :: FAMILY MADRIGAL
Present Time

The sun's brightness peeked into the nursery, as Camilo opened his windows wide. He smiles to himself as he felt the morning breeze and warmth on his soft skin, appreciating another new sunny day. His room looked like the backstage of a theater, with props and posters hanging on the wall. The light hits every corner of the room, as it slowly reveals its character. Old toys and packed-up boxes were on the other side, with animal drawings on the wall. He walks near his bag and gets an item or two to place in his drawer. He then proceeds to go to the front of a mirror and starts combing his hair, styling it in a way that he preferred the most. Styling that took more than an hour or so.

"Camilo, It's almost breakfast yet you haven't prepared the plates!" Bruno exclaims as Camilo jumps at the tone of his uncle's voice."Lo siento! I'm coming!" he replied as he hastily slips on his black sandals, adjusts his curls, and does a final look in his mirror with confidence, "I'll make them proud." He runs out of the nursery, turning around the corner, and heading downstairs, his steps getting faster as he was late for preparation.

"Looking great, Abuelo!" he says as he slid down the railing and finger guns an old painting of his Abuelo Pedro, turning his back as he runs into the dining room to see Dolores setting up the plates. "You're late," she scoffs, as she carefully places each customized plate in its designated area, highlighting each of the family's gifts. Camilo rolled his eyes as he grabbed cups from the cupboard, placing him along beside Dolores.

"Well señorita perfecta, as you know, perfection does not happen overnight. My hair takes time to look this effortless," Camilo brags as he swiftly showed off his casual curls matching his smug face.

"You look like, how you looked yesterday," Dolores said in a monotone voice, unimpressed by Camilo's words.

"Then it must be working!" He walks off with pride as he heads to the kitchen to get food. Dolores scoffs and rolls her eyes as she continued to do Camilo's supposed chores. Camilo skips through the corridor as he suddenly notices a group of peeping eyes surrounding the windows of Casita, with their little hands popping out. Camilo shakes his head and chuckles at their childish antics.

"I know you're there!" His dark auburn hair bounces in glee as he takes a peek out of the window to see the children of the townspeople.

"Rats! Camilo caught us again!!" Little Alejandra pouted and crossed her arm. The kids apparently annoyed that they were caught by Camilo.

"What are you guys doing here? The gift ceremony doesn't start in like..." he counts with his fingers and mentally too, "night," Camilo asked as he raised an eyebrow at the curious yet clearly excited children.

"Tonight?!"

"Yes, my brother Antonio's gift ceremony will be tonight," he smiled thoughtfully, remembering that today was Antonio's fifth birthday.
