CHAPTER 10 :: REGRET
"Is that my vision...?" Tia Bruno gasped, eyeing the nervous and sweating Camilo. He pokes his head to see a glimpse of a familiar emerald glow, clearly concerned. Casita immediately tries to hide it, covering up as the young boy lifted his right arm which made his poncho cover the vision but its glow still peaking out. Bruno looks at him, concerned, afraid but also sternly as the young boy licks his lips, thinking about lying but realizing he should just spit it out.
"I... It's a long story- I broke into Pepa's tower, jumped some amazing, big, fluffy clouds, and uh... I found your vision! The vision you just talked about hours ago and then I realized that the family is in trouble, Mirabel is slow as a turtle on land, Everyone's gift is fading, and the house has cracks EVERYWHERE but also kinda hiding? and it's all probably because of your most talented boy...?" Camilo stuttered fast as if he was reciting a tongue twister Bruno had forced out of him.
His uncle stares at Camilo, stunned. "Tio?" the boy tries to call out as Bruno approaches the table and eyes the vision he held on to years ago. His eyes squint in pain as he remembered all the memories attached to the emerald plate.
"We have to tell Abuela." He stated as he quickly shoves the shards into his pockets. Camilo stares in fear as he holds on to his arm, forcing his uncle to stop. "No...please! No, Tio!" Camilo begged as tears start to build. Bruno tries to move his hands, only for Camilo to hold him tight.
"We have to tell Abuela. I CANNOT make the same mistake as I did years ago," he shakes his arm, accidentally shoving his nephew to the side and landing on the floor. "Tio Bruno please, I can't."
"Camilo, they're going to know eventually. This is for the good of the family. I HAVE to do it for the family," he rushes to the door, his emerald eyes in pain but trying to be strict, insisting it was for the family. Everything they must do must be for the family. Abuela most know. Everyone must know. It's for the greater good after all.
"But it's not good for me!"
Bruno stopped as his hands lay on the doorknob. He looks back at him, his eyes turning soft as he sees his nephew clenching his fist on the floor.
Camilo cries as his warm tears finally fall, landing on the wooden floor. He kneels and curls vulnerably, begging his dear stunned Uncle. "I can't bear to see them disappointed in me... I can't bear to see this family fall apart knowing it's because of me." The curly-haired wept, begging with every breath. "I- can't handle being a disappointment anymore... please give me time to fix this. To prove your vision wrong. To prove everyone wrong... To prove to Abuela that I'm not a mistake."
"Abuela is going to treat him worse! Abuela is going to treat him like how she treats me... I don't want that for him."
At that moment, Bruno didn't only see Camilo but also his sister, his sister who cried and begged years ago. They have the same green pale eyes whose eyes had felt more tears than anyone else. Bruno catches his breath, trying not to build up the same tears. He knelt down beside Camilo and hugged his nephew. His eyes, flicker and glow a bit, making him grunt but he continued to focus on the young boy.
