CHAPTER 09 :: WE DON'T TALK ABOUT PEPA
Camilo walks out of Pepa's room, feeling a bit lighter as he finally got the shards yet heavy at what he witnessed in his Tía's room. He turns to a corner, trying not to be obvious when he suddenly walks right into Abuela.
"Where are you coming from in such a hurry?" Abuela grunts, brushing herself off.
"I'm sorry, Abuela I was just–"
Abuela notices slightly shakey hands and holds him, his temperature lower than usual. "Mijo! You're cold are you alright–?" She asked with concern and suspicion. Camilo tries to answer but is interrupted by bumps and grunts from the stares. They looked behind to see Mirabel bumping around, her speed not cooperating with her which caused her to clash with the walls.
"My gift! There's something wrong with my gift!" She says, trying to slow down.
"What?!"
"I was just rushing around doing my daily errands and then suddenly, I couldn't control my speed! I was zooming, zooming, and zooming and then suddenly I was... was... slooooow, and it was probably because of you!" Mirabel points and accuses Camilo before she walks off crying, slowly. Abuela looks at his grandson and he shakes his head, swearing he didn't do anything. Before Abuela could even utter a word, the town bell rings indicating that she needed to go.
"Ach, I have to fetch the Guzmans for Dolores' proposal," she indicates as she fixes the side of her hair. "Everyone should stay away from Mirabel until I can talk to her. Tonight we can't have any more problems. And whatever you're doing, stop doing it!" Abuela scolds as she heads off, leaving Camilo in the hallway. He glances at Mirabel's door to see it flicker slightly, making him feel bad for his prima in a long time.
Camilo heads to the nursery but notices Antonio was there talking with Pepito, their cat. Camilo heads down to look for a safe place to look at the shards. He then sees that the kitchen was empty, only food was there. He immediately puts out all the shards on the counter as he tries to rearrange it. He takes a look at the big shard and takes a closer look at the figure.
It was him. Camilo himself.
"Why am I in your vision, Tía Pepa?"
Before he can even react, the room shakes when a sudden burst of crates were dropped on the floor. Camilo, startled, immediately turns around to see Luisa who had just dopped the crates of ingredients, and Julieta who guided her. Camilo smiles widely, trying to hide his intentions and behind his back, he swoops all the shards into his bag.
"Luisa, Tía, jeez you both scared me!" The boy continued to smile awkwardly trying to not seem obvious.
"Sorry, Lil primo! Just dropped off some boxes for Mama," Luisa says and immediately waves goodbye after Julieta gives her a kiss on the cheek.
"Don't overwork, my dear!" She waves back as she proceeds to start working on the kitchen. "Weeeell, I should be heading out then," the teen tries to run out when suddenly.
