WARNINGS: VIOLENCE, BRUISING, SMUT.
Not like these warnings really do anything :/

This is going to be one of the few female readers in this book. I don't write them often so it'd be a waste to make a whole new book for a short story.

-------------------------

The tall wooden doors of the daycare loomed over me, my body frozen stiff. My heartbeat in my throat, hands clammy, skin burning up just from the thought of entering. I watched the doors, counting my breaths and how many times I blinked to stall so I didn't have to enter. Stalling so I didn't have to relive what had happened a month ago. I still haven't even fully recovered.

I pressed my hand against my side, feeling for the scar beneath the fabric. It was bearable. Uncomfortable, but bearable.

Finally getting my nerves in check, I stepped toward the giant wooden door, pulling it open with some strain. The daycare was empty. Eerie silence pouring through. Not even the usual themed music was playing. I felt every hair on the back of my neck raise when I stepped in further into the daycare.

Swallowing the lump in my throat, I raised my hands to cup around my mouth and shouted, "HELLO?!" My voice echoed through the play structures and bounced off the walls. I moved closer to the security desk, hand hovering over the 'Call for Help' button as a safeguard. Ominous clicking echoed back with a few ticks. I scanned the daycare in front of me, anxious and afraid. "S-Sunny?" I spoke, maybe too quietly, but it had gotten the specific attention I needed.

From above the clicking got louder, I quickly turned my head and tried to not shriek. Sun, slightly damaged and discolored lowered down from the ceiling. It continued to lower until it finally made contact with the ground, so much taller than I was, slouching and staring me eye to eye. Its unsettling smile got bigger only when I stepped back.

"P-P-PARTS AND [service] MAN!!!" It shouted, the voice box glitching and distorting. The fans on the inside whirring just to keep it from overheating. "A-ARE YOU HERE TO [take me] BACK TO GET [fixed]??" I nodded anxiously, "Uhm... Yeah, you look pretty beaten up..." It clapped its hands together and unhooked itself from the wire. "SHALL WE GET GOING?!" I outreached its hand for me to take but I just stepped away. It looked a little hurt but paid no mind to it.

Now nearing the elevator, I felt sick to my stomach. Just like last time. Stuck in an elevator with this thing. It stepped in first, moving to allow me in. As soon as the doors closed, I started to silently panic. It's been a month. A month should be a long enough time to get a faulty elevator fixed.

The usual pizza plex jingle played over the speakers quietly, other than that, the awkward silence between me and the bot was suffocating. I started to focus on anything and everything else, how fast I was breathing, what the name of that song was, was this job really worth my life?

I jumped in my skin when Sun moved out of the corner of my eye, it shifted down to watch me. I could hear it, mimicking my breathing like a child would mimic their parent. It felt unnerving.

Then, just like last time, the elevator stuttered. The wheels made a screeching sound and we started to slow down. There was still at least a minute of elevator time before we finally reach parts and service. But the lights started to flicker. I felt the deep-rooted fear that had been carved into my soul start to burn. I backed myself into a corner, trying to push my spine all the way into the crevice of the corner. Legs shaking and throat tight with tears, I started to fall.

Slowly sliding down the elevator wall, I watched in horror as Sun looked at the lights before starting to change. It gripped at its face, leaning forwards and screaming in artificial pain. I choked on a sob and held my head on my knees, protecting my head with my hands. The only thing I could do to protect myself.
