Marshall Lee x Male reader
(Y/n) POV
"SON OF A BITCH!" I flinched at his angry words, shrinking into the couch. My father flicked and swiped the match but could never light the end of his cigarette. Out of frustration, he got up from the couch and walked to the kitchen. The gas burner stove stood before him. He turned it on and leaned forwards, attempting to light the cigarette. Something must've been busted because one second the house was fine and the next, my father was dead on the ground surrounded by fire.
I remember crawling on the floor, coughing from all the smoke, until a searing pain erupted on my back. I tried to scream but no sound came out. It was as though someone was stabbing me with a flaming arrow.
Black spots covered my vision, my breathing shallowed and my limbs stopped moving. Salty tears spilled from my closing eyes. In the distance, I heard echoes of my name being spoken. They repeated, "(Y/n)!" "(Y/n)!""(Y/N)!!" I jolted awake, reaching to punch the person in the face but I stopped. "You okay Buddy?" I stared at Fionna and Cake, retracting my hand back to my side. My heart was beating and my eyes wide. I took a shaky breath, closing my eyes. "Just fine..." Cake's fuzzy paws grabbed my face. "You don't look fine, honey. You've been crying." I pulled away and rubbed the tears dry with my blanket. "I promise you it's okay." I heard Cake give a judgmental 'MmHmm' and jump from my bed.
I tossed my legs over the side of my bed, stretching my arms overhead. "What are you two doing here anyways?" Fionna perked up, "Well, Me, Marshall and Gumball were going to go swimming and thought you'd like to tag along!" I cringed. "I'll take a hard pass." I stood up and walked to my bathroom. "Oh come on! We haven't hung out as a group in forever!" she pouted while clinging to my arm. "A month is not forever." She let go of me, crossing her arms across her chest.
I raised an eyebrow to her, giving the look of 'really?' as I stared back. "You never want to go swimming with us anymore..." she pouted even more. "Come on. You know exactly why I don't like swimming!" she stomped her foot. "But you don't have to take off your shirt!" I glared at her. "It doesn't matter! I'm not going and that's-"

"I can't believe you made me go." Fionna had tied me up with a rope. "Well you needed to get out of that old house for some fresh air!" I rolled my eyes. "I was fine with my morning runs." She shook her head. "Quit your whining. Plus, we're almost there." I groaned and fell limp, awaiting the embarrassment.
Cake stopped and gently set us on the ground. I sat cross-legged and pulled at the ropes. "Fionna, Cake and... (Y/n)?" I stopped messing with the ropes and looked up. "Hi Gumball." Behind him was a large cave. I'm guessing inside was the lake. "(Y/n) do you need some help?" Gumball kneeled behind me. "What does it look like?" he chuckled and cut the ropes off with a pocket knife. "Thanks."
I rubbed my wrists, stepping away from Fionna with a glare. "Are we going in or not?" The three of them looked my way and started running. "LAST ON THERE IS A BAD APPLE!" they chased each other in a harmless game of tag, all the while I was walking.
"C'mon (Y/n)! The water's great!" I stared at Fionna. "No." she pouted. "Also, where's Marshall?" they looked like they forgot about the oven and the house could have burned down. Before they could panic, a voice echoed through the cave. "I see you've awaited my arrival?" near the entrance, stood Marshall lee wearing trunks and holding a towel. "Marshall! You made it!" Fionna said, playing off her forgetfulness on him. "Well of course! You are my friends after all!"
He threw his towel in my direction and dove right into the deepest part of the lake. He resurfaced and laughed. They all seemed to be having a fun time.
I was far enough away from the water with my sketchbook in hand. Drawings littered the current page. Some small faces or scenes but at the center was a certain vampire who couldn't take his eyes off me. I did my best to capture his eyes and fangs. It was harder than most people thought.
After finishing with the hair, I pushed it away from my face and proudly looked at it. "Whatcha drawing?" I slammed the book shut, adrenaline pulsing through my veins. "N-Nothing!" I shouted. Marshall stood before me, looking down with a smirk. "Well if you're acting like that then it's clearly something." He tried to grab the book but I snatched it away.
"Dude! It's nothing!" he didn't believe me. Suddenly, someone else took the book and started to flip through the pages. Out of fear, I stood, and tried to get back. Fionna started to run away towards the lake. I followed, determined to get that book back.
I lost my footing and my body was sent flying into the water. The last thing I remember was pain and bubbles everywhere.
TIME SKIP + POV change
Marshall POVFionna ran away with (Y/n)'s sketchbook, laughing at some of the pictures. I stood back with Gumball and Cake as they ran.
It was all fun until (Y/n) slipped. Fionna didn't notice but me and Gumball sure did. I charged to the water and dove in. I saw (Y/n), his eyes were closing and he kept sinking to the bottom. I grabbed his hand and pulled him so the surface.
Once on land, I checked his pulse. "He isn't breathing!" Gumball shouted. "I KNOW THAT!" I took a deep breath, pinched his nose, and connected our mouths. I pushed against his chest, preforming CPR repeatedly until he coughed up the water.
He sat up slowly, shivering and shaking. I touched his arm, "You're freezing..." he stayed silent. "Come on, let's warm you up." I helped him up. "Guys, I think it's best if you leave." Gumball, Fionna and Cake nodded. "I'll try my best to make sure he's alright." Fionna looked at me with worried eyes. "Are you sure?" I nodded. "I promise." She sighed and exited. "Now let's get going."
I sat him on the floor in front of the fire and wrapped him in a blanket. "(Y/n)? Can you hear me?" he shakily nodded. "Are you okay?" tears welled in his eyes. "(Y/n)?" I said as softly as I could, "What's wrong?" I gently grabbed his face and made him look at me. "You can tell me." I smiled, rubbing his cheek with my thumb. "I... I a-almost died..." the tears began falling from his eyes.
He grabbed my hand with little to no force, "I saw everything flash before my eyes..." I moved to sit in front of him. "It's okay, I'm here... I'm here. Like I always am." I wrapped his arms around my waist. "It's okay... You're still here and so am I." he sobbed into my shoulder. "Marsh... I love you..." my body froze. "W-What?" he sniffed and looked me in the eyes. "I said I loved you." He smiled and that's when I broke. "I... I love you too..." He buried his face in my chest.
We sat near the fire cuddling and sleeping.
I guess it was a happy ever after.
