Gesturing her to remain on her guards, he pulled out his weapon; hounding across the room, he reached for the door. "Let's be - very - quiet." He instructed, as they proceeded out. They backtracked to the last crossway, when a scream resonated across the shafts, followed by consecutive gunshots. Blindly rushing through the maze like corridors, they finally reached a faded sign siding a double door, on which could be read: S... o... ge \ M...en...nce... om.
"Storage \ Maintenance Room..? You think that's where the gunshots came from?" She inquired in a whisper, as she try keeping her composure. "That's where the guard was going..."
"You stay here, I'll go in first and scout the place." He instructed; she nodded in response, for she understood the potential danger ahead. A hand upon the door knob, he took in a deep breath, before sneaking in.
His weapon readied, he scanned the area; piles of mechanical parts stacked up all around, stains of paint and oil all over the cement floor. Large in size and impressive in height, the room looked more like an indoor junkyard than a storage area. At every corner were crates and boxes, poorly piled up, making it rather hazardous to maneuver through the meandering path.
"Whatever's going on in there- I got it cover..." He tried convincing himself; as he reached the door to the Maintenance Room. I've already been through Hell... how worse can it get? His mind commented; a firm grip upon his handgun, he went in stealthily. A broken car towered in the center of the large open area; spare pieces and a variety of machinery filled the majority of the room. The buzzing sound of blinking neon lights, added to the eerie humming of nearby generators. No more gunshots, no more screaming; an unsettling silence lingered deep. He proceeded forwards, each steps as light as possible, his weapon aimed, ready to anticipate any danger. His eyes scanned the area, when he eventually stumbled upon a trail of blood. That's just what I need... The trail lead to behind the car, to where a wounded guard laid on the ground.
"What happened here??" Billy inquired, as he kneeled down next to the badly injured man. His name tag read G. Drans This is bad... this man won't make it out. His eyes traveled down to the guard's abdomen; a large portion of his skin had been ripped off, deep bite marks covering the majority of his arms and legs.
"... th-there... was... s-some-t-thing... down... h-er... t-that... man f-fro... m..." The guard muttered under his last breath, before bleeding out to his death.
"Dammit!!" Billy uttered, an alarmed and severe look appeared on his face. I have to go back to Anaka! He picked up the man's weapon and spare clips, before rushing back to her.
"What happened?" She inquired, as she noticed the blood on his hands. "Was there an accident? Were the guards inside?" Her heartbeat increased, a panicked expression swiftly spread across her face. "Billy!?"
"We need to get out of here, NOW!" He commanded.
"I don't understand!! What the hell happened?" Her mind was going haywire. "I need to get to Stoneville, I can't turn back now-"
"Something's going on down here, and believe me, you don't wanna wait and find out what it is!" His tone was harsh and cold. "We're leaving RIGHT now!" He grabbed her arm; a struggle to make her move, for she refused to leave. Tension escalated, silence ravaging through the passageway. The tunnels were no longer safe; something was going on, and they needed to get to safety right away.
"I'm not leaving!" She pulled back, trying to free herself from his grip, determination overflowing her eyes. "I have to get there-"
"I crawled out of Hell, I'm not about to just go back in!" He insisted, his grip remaining firm on her. "There's something- out in these shafts- that nearly ripped a guard in half."
God no..!! Her eyes widened, her breathing increased drastically. Please tell me it's not what I think...
"We need to get out of here, and find another way to Stoneville. Hitchhiking if we have to!!" He commanded. "This place is not safe, trust me."
"..." She knew of the potential danger that awaited; however, she had to reach Stoneville no matter what. This can't be... Moments passed.
"Whatever's in here... We can't let it stop us... Billy-" She was desperate. "You don't understand what's at stake here..."
