The "talk"

We had been sitting on the couch for the past 3 hours, and by 'we' I mean Nat, Kate, and I. Yelena had been sitting at the kitchen table working on my glasses-or, what was left of them. The rest of us sat around the coffee table now, playing truth or dare, cause who doesn't want to play truth or dare while they're drunk? It was my turn to go, so I looked towards Nat while she asked the question.

"(Y/N), truth or dare?" she said, setting her drink down. I put mine down before answering and acted like I was thinking about it.

"Hmm... dare," I smirked at her, waiting for a dare to pop into her mind.

"I dare you..." her eyes darted back and forth from Katie and me. I had a feeling she was going to dare us to kiss, just by the look in her emerald eyes. "to kiss me," she finished. My mouth hung open as I paused mid-movement in going towards Kate. I glanced towards Kate, whose slightly-drunken smile had turned to confusion. At least, I thought it was confusion, I couldn't really tell.

I looked away from her and got up to walk towards Nat. Slowly walking towards her, not breaking eye contact, I looked down at her, grinning ear to ear. Just as I went to bend back down to her, Kate interrupted.

"(Y/N) could I speak with you for a minute? In private?" she said that last part through gritted teeth, so I knew I was in trouble. I snapped my stare away from Nat's and follow Kate into my bedroom, where she locked the door behind us. "What the fuck was that, (Y/N)?"

"What are you talking about? We were playing truth or dare-"

"That's not what I mean, (Y/N), you know what I mean."

"What, that you're fucking bi-polar or something? I mean, you were just having a great time out there, and suddenly when Natalia and I decide to get in on the fun we're in the wrong?" I keep my eyes on hers, which can't manage to stay on mine.

"You're not in the wrong here, (Y/N). It's her-don't you see? She likes you, a lot. And I don't know who you like but it's clearly not her, you can't keep leading her on!" Kate's voice gets unusually loud, not loud loud, but loud for her.

"Oh, I see what this is about, you don't like Nat cause you think she's stealing me from you?"

"No, god fucking no-I don't like you-well, of course I like you-not in that way-well-"

"Katie, calm down, deep breaths," I cut off her rambling and walk over to her as she starts to sound out of breath.

"(Y/N), I promise I don't like you like that, and" she stuttered to get more out in between breaths, "even if I did, this wouldn't be how I would react, I swear," she had tears streaming down her face now, which didn't help with the breathing situation.

"Hey, now it just sounds like you hate me," I say laughing, pulling her into a hug. "besides, what if I like you too? Not a very encouraging space to tell you that now is it, Bishop," I feel her smile against my shoulder and start to laugh.

"(Y/N)? You okay in there?" a voice I assumed was Nat sounded like it was getting closer out in the hallway. I felt the smile fade from Kate's face as she slowly lifted her head, listening to the footsteps get closer.

"Yeah I'm fine, Natalia, Kate and I are just talking about something," the footsteps stopped at the door.

"Oh, okay," she sounded disappointed, what did she think was going on? "Lena and I are just about to head out, we figure Clint'll be home soon-you said he gets home at 5-she hasn't finished your glasses yet, so we'll be back when they're finished tomorrow," she waited for my response.

"Hold on-" I got up, leaving Kate sitting alone on the bed, and opened the door. I watched as the redhead's eyes glided from the floor up to my face, smiling when her eyes met mine. "Same time tomorrow fine?"

"Oh-yes, that's fine," the sound of the door opening interrupted her.

"Natalia, let's go!" I could hear Yelena's muffled yell from down the hall.

"Bye Yelena! Thank you!" I yell back, peeking my head out of the doorway to my bedroom.

"'Welcome!" she yells back, her accent seemingly disappearing for a moment. I turned back to Nat, who hadn't taken her eyes off me.

"See you tomorrow,"

"Yeah, I'll..." she stopped for a moment, staring into space behind me. I didn't say anything, just waved my hand in front of her face, making her snap back to reality. "-Sorry, yeah, see you," she turned and walked away as I closed the door. I turned back to Katie, who raised her eyebrows as if she had just proved some extraordinary point to me. I walked back towards her slowly, then jumped onto her, tackling her back onto the bed.

After what seemed like forever, I got her pinned.

"Finally. Jesus christ, you're stubborn, even in fighting," I laughed, looking down at her.

"Hey, it's still 1-1, remember, I got you pinned in like five seconds before," she grinned back up at me.

"Shut it, Bishop,"
