Hologram

I, of course, won the fight.

In Katie's defense, it was fairly close, but I won with an unexpected victory. Okay, maybe she let me win. But that's up not the point. Still another victory for me in the books.

Now, we laid upside-down, hanging off the side of her bed.

"You know, for someone who has such a big bed, you sure do tend to sleep in one corner of it," I could feel the indent of her body in the mattress, left from sleeping there night after night.

"Hey, what can I say, I like what I like," she turned her head towards mine, still upside down.

"Am I one of those things?" I spit out, followed by Kate almost falling off the bed. I hadn't realized what I said until after I said it. I tried to fake laugh and cover it up as a joke, figuring I had gone too far. "I-uh-" Of course now I couldn't get anything out.

I stood up, looking down at Kate as she struggled to get up. "Do you want help-"

"No, no. I'm fine!" she popped up, smiling and trying to change the subject. "See, I'm an avenger, I'm pretty agile," she winked, looking down at herself and smoothing her jacket with her palms.

"Not an avenger yet," the voice made me jump and raise my fists, while Kate grabbed the lamp, winding up to throw it. Both our heads snapped towards the door, scanning the figure that stood there.

"Clint, why do you have to scare us like that? Why can't you just say hi," Katie sighed, setting the lamp down.

"Oh yeah... I totally knew it was Clint. I was just... playing along.." I slowly raised my fists back down to my sides, trying to fake laugh again.

I wasn't very convincing, and Clint made sure I knew that. We all ate dinner on the couch, watching another documentary that Katie had already seen a billion times. "Oh yeahh, totallyy knew that was Clint," he mocked while I rested my head on Kate's shoulder. It had been a long day, and I couldn't tell Kate any of it. And by the looks of it, I wasn't confiding in Nat anytime soon.

Kate tapped me out of my thoughts, nodding her head towards Clint, fast asleep on the other side of her. I grinned and mouthed "I need a picture of this". I stood up, careful not to hit any of the spots on the floor that creaked, then running down the hallway to grab my phone from her room.

I reached for my phone, grabbing it and going to run back to the living room, but got interrupted by something buzzing on the nightstand. Slowly, I turned around, scanning the table. The blue flashing light coming from my glasses caught my eye.

"What the hell..." I stepped back a little, hesitating. It started to buzz louder the longer I didn't pick it up. "Fine," I responded to the buzzing, picking them up and putting them on, touching the side button.

"Good evening, (Y/N)," a blue translucent figure appeared in front of me. I opened my mouth to scream but it cut me off, "don't scream, I'm not actually there, this is hologram," I recognized that accent anywhere. I stepped closer to the hologram, and it moved further away. It must've come directly from the glasses, although I had no idea what these things could do besides act like a map.

"...Yelena?" I said, waiting for a response. Instead of a hello, I got a speech.

"Natasha and I left today without making a scene, her choice, not mine. If necessary, I will make a scene, understood? Good. Now, the actual message. The Barton Mission, I will carry it out whether you'd like me to or not, and if you get in my way, you'll be taken out along with Barton. The same goes for your little girlfriend, Kate Bishop. You have 72 hours to respond to this, or I take back your share of the deal-" I flinched and reached my hand up to the temple of my glasses, realizing she really could take them back. "-once this message ends, there's a reply option. Reply. Goodbye, (Y/L/N)," well, she was right, there was a reply option. I clicked the button again, and realizing it was already filming.

I set the glasses on the table, trying to get them at the right angle. "Come on-there. Perfect," I took a step back, keeping my eyes on the glasses to make sure they didn't move. "Okay, so, where to begin?" I took a deep breath, keeping the exhale quiet so I didn't seem as nervous as I was. "So, uh-Mission Barton?-Very, uh, original. What else, what else.... Oh! Yeah! The threat? Don't step anywhere near Katie, and she's not my girlfriend, thank you. Me? I like my glasses, go ahead with Mission Barton. Just don't bring Katie and I into it. Thanks," I smiled at the camera and turned it off.

I left the glasses on the table and grabbed my phone off the bed. I knew I wasn't going to let them hurt Clint, but until I figured out something to stop them, I didn't need to lose one of my only resources. No one else had to know. Everything will be fine. Right?
