“Colton!! I told you to hold on to Nellie!” His mom turned around to yell at him.

He felt the pressure on his stomach as Nellie shrunk back into him trying to get away from the angry mom in front of her. He laughed out loud and everyone stared at him dumbfounded as he said, “mom now YOU are scaring Nellie.”

His mom looked taken aback as she looked down at the small girl and her gaze changed completely. “Oh I’m sorry Nellie I didn’t mean to over react like that.”

“I-It’s alright,” she managed to stutter out.

Sighing with defeat Mrs. H turned back around and said with her back to them. “Lift Nellie up off of your lap and try and relax your arms so they aren’t tense when we hit a bump.”

Taking her directing, Nellie felt Colton relax his arms and hold her out away from him.

Dr. H started the car again and started to pull forward slowly. The jostling wasn’t so bad thanks to Mrs. H’s direction she barely moved when they hit bump after bump that caused everyone else to leap up out of their seats. At one point Colton was bumped up into the ceiling of the car and he tensed up and brought it free hand to his head rubbing it. He relaxed again slowly but rolled his eyes as he saw Nellie pointing at him and giggling.

Alas the car approached the house and as soon as the car was parked. Colton unbuckled his seatbelt and opened the door he brought Nellie to his chest as he bent down to get out of the car and then stood up to full height to stretch.

After the shock from the rush of movement Nellie looked up at the large house that she remembered fairly well. The front porch was just a foot off the ground and had a swinging bench and a chair on it. It was a soft white house that had started to weather with age flaking in some spots. The roof was once black but it also had a hint of gray in it as the years sun-bleached it.

The gravel driveway led into a separate detached garage and also led to a walkway make of red brick to the front of the house and the porch.

Colton’s voice forced her mind back to focus when he spoke, “I’m going to show Nellie the house.”

His mother smiled at both of them, “that sounds good, I’ll get dinner started.”

“Okay thanks mom.”

Nellie was still pressed against Colton’s chest and the soft material of his shirt was still beckoning her to lull back to sleep. “Can you hold me in your hand?”

Colton swiftly but carefully gripped her tiny body around her waist and he put his other hand under her feet to give her something solid to stand on and a little extra support.

Skipping the garage and heading straight inside. Nellie was quickly shown around the house. He showed her everything the final room he showed her brought back a ton of memories of playing with Colton when they were both young. His room was now mostly bed now as a giant King sat in the center of the room but it still had plenty of room in it for his dresser and bookshelves which were full of books, CD’s, and movies. A giant flat screen was hanging on the wall adjacent to his bed. It felt even bigger than a theater screen at her size.

But in the corner of the room was doll house before she could say anything Colton said, “This is where you will live. It has a bedroom, bathroom, and a kitchen. We put your stuff in it already. I’m pretty sure it’s sound proof but just let me know if I’m making too much noise and I’ll try and quiet down for you.”

“Oh great, thanks Colton.” She smiled down at the house but more than anything wanted to go into it. “So . . . can I go into it now?”

He jumped slightly and spoke quickly, “oh yeah, sorry about that I zoned out a bit.” He chuckled slightly feeling awkward as he lowered Nellie to the front door of her tiny house.

She looked up having to till her head completely back to see his face. She smiled and waved and was he returned with a smile and waved his hand as she entered the house.

Whens he entered she was greeted with the chill of the AC as it blasted. She found a tiny thermostat and raised the temperature a little bit.

The living room was the first room you entered after stepping through the front door. It was pretty simple a few shelves on the wall, a couch that didn’t look terribly comfortable, and a TV. The open floor plan opened up into the tiny kitchenette. It had a mini fridge, a tiny stove, and all the other things you’d normally find in a kitchen. The fridge was full of soda, tea, water, and other things she could eat and snack on.

There were 3 other doors one of them led to a bathroom with a shower, sink, and toilet all white and plain. The second was a coat closet that was current holding her miscellaneous stuff. And the last was her room. The bed had a pretty black and dark red comforter on it. The furniture looked nicer with dark wood they looked expensive. Without a second thought she ran and jumped up onto the bed and was engulfed in plush pillows and blankets the soft materials cradled her tiny body as she dozed off to sleep finally feeling normal in such an abnormal world as this one.
