Luter wasn’t in her next class, which was the Untied States equivalent of Algebra II. Nellie still hadn’t quite figured out how school worked. The retsnomian students have to go to their school for the subject of math and science because the stuff humans learn is, well, like middle school work to them.
Nellie doesn’t even know what they are learning. She’s almost certain that if anyone on earth would know what it was, they’d have to be a super genius with a giant IQ. So she just simply accept the fact that whatever the giants were learning was about 10 times harder than anything she’d ever have to do herself.
So as she walked to Algebra II she saw the kid named Josh. He was practically hugging the wall as he passed. Whenever any student was about to bump into him, retsnomian or human, he twisted his body to avoid the impact like he was in the matrix or something.
He wasn’t bad looking. He wasn’t too tall, maybe 5’ 10” or so and his completion was an almost yellowish olive tone color. It looked as if he’d gotten a little sun over the summer; just enough to give his skin a glow. His hair was so black it almost glowed with a bluish sheen in the light. And, due to his cautious glances from side to side as he walk, she could make out that his eyes were a deep dark blue, that looked almost black if you didn’t pay attention. Sadly, Nellie was almost certain that was just the case with this kid; he didn’t look like he got paid much attention too. She would change that.
“Hey, Josh!” upon hearing his name the boys face snapped back behind him looking for the voice that had called him. When he didn’t stop on her he looked back and continued to walk, rather hastily, away.
But being the determined person Nellie was she continued to pick of her pass, looking rather ridiculous as she half jogged to the kid.
When she was right behind him she reached out and touched his should while saying, again, “Josh, hey, you’re in-”
Without warning the kid quickly spun around, pivoting his body as quick as a cobra, before punching Nellie right in her cheek.
By the time his head turned to catch up with the speed of his body, it was too late. When he heard the girl before him cry out slightly as she was knocked to the ground and then proceeded to reach up and block her face from another punch, his expression instantly transformed into one of regret.
“Oh my god! I’m so sorry!” he leaned forward and tried to help her up but she crab-walked backwards, trying to get away. “I won’t touch you again, I’m so sorry.”
Nellie looked up to his face and saw that it held one of remorse and sadness and then nodded, reaching her hand out towards him. He helped her up, his lean muscled arms using little effort to lift the small girl up, and then grasped her shoulder to help support her slightly swaying form.
“We need to get you to the nurse.” Surprisingly no one noticed the little incident. It actually happened so quickly, Nellie herself wasn’t even sure of what happened. She reached out touch his shoulder then before she could get her sentence out a fist was smashing its way into the delicate skin of her face. It happened in less than a second. It might have looked like she’d just slipped and fallen on her butt. Either way no one stopped to investigate.
“No it’s fine.” Nellie spoke hesitantly, she didn’t want to go but the surface of her skin was starting to heat up and she could feel a bruise coming.
“No, it’s not fine, I-” he lowered his voice. “I hit you. I’m so sorry; by the way, I’m just really jittery and nervous.”
“Because of what happened to you last year?” despite the assault Nellie still felt bad for the kid. He’d gone out of his way to not touch, anyone even moving when people were more than a foot away, and she’d just moseyed her way over to stop him without thinking about it.
