Nellie woke up pain stricken, her body stiff and sore. Amazing how sleeping with your neck turned the wrong way and your hand twisted just enough to cut of circulation can cause so much discomfort.
It took her a second to remember where she was, which was in the hall closet, no longer in the corner of her former best friend’s room.
After having had the night to think about things she still couldn’t decide how she felt. Colton is her best friend or at least he was. How can a friendship that took years to grow be destroyed after a few hours? She didn’t want it to be that way. She wanted to stay friends. But now it seems like there whole relationship was just a big sham. How do you trust someone who has lied to you so much?
A knock on the door woke Nellie up out of her trance. “Hey, you up?”
It was Owen. “Yeah, Owen! I’m awake!”
“Okay, we have an hour before school. See you soon!” then there was a bang as the closet door shut and the little boy scurried away to go eat breakfast or something.
No more Colton, not for the next fifty minutes of prep time. Instead she thought about Nate and Josh, and seeing Luter.
Her first day of school had been a whirl wind of new people, new surroundings, and just new everything. For a girl who liked simplicity and stabilization, she felt like her world was just shifting out of control. But now she had these three guys to help keep her on her feet . . . none of them being YOU KNOW WHO.
Nate was just so sweet. And josh was surprisingly a lot more open-minded then she thought he’d be. And Luter . . . well he was just insane. And while normally insanity deterred Nellie, Luter was the kind of insane you liked to me around. The unexpected, lovable, giant crazy person you just want to hug.
Oh and what was with that? He hugged her and held her like he’d known her his whole life and he’d only spoke a few sentences too her. And although it did still throw Nellie for a loop, she liked the attention
Nate tricked her. She did like Luter, she liked all of them in a way, and she couldn’t wait to see them again.
So with her new found motivation she pushed herself out of bed and went to find an outfit to wear. Yesterday she’d gone for comfortable and familiarity, today she wanted to be bold and outspoken. A colorful dress was just the way to do that.
The soft blue cotton dress came to just above her knee and was embellished with lace around the bodice. The cut on the front didn’t reveal much. She feared anything too low cut would show toooooo much to her much taller companions. But the dress was nice. She could bend over in it and it went well with these wedges she’d bought on her shopping trip.
A pretty ring here and a dazzling necklace there and then she was ready for her face. Normally she stuck with the basics: foundation, eyeliner, mascara, and a chap stick. But now she had people to impress and impress she would.
Gold shimmery eye shadow dances across her eyelids and wings in a striking black were added to give her that edgy look. About a half a tube of mascara and lip-gloss later and she was ready for the runway.
Her hair was a curly mess but after combing through her hair with her fingers and adding a little product the waves and curls sprang to life. It looked effortlessly gorgeous and she thanked her mom up in heaven for giving her such an amazing head of hair.
She grabbed her purse, which didn’t actually hold that much. And her backpack and started towards the door.
Once outside her house she opened the door to the closet leading to the hallway.
