Plagiarism is a wrongful appropriation or purloining and publication of another author's languages, thoughts, ideas, expressions and representing them as one's own original work. The idea remains problematic with unclear definitions and unclear rules.

Plagiarism is considered academic dishonesty and a breach of journalistic ethics. It is a subject to sanctions like expulsion.

It is a serious ethical offense and cases of plagiarism can constitute copyright infringement.

Under the CYBERCRIME PREVENTION ACT the penalty is 3 to 6 years imprisonment and a fine of P50,000- P150,000. Possibly a penalty higher.
