20:33 - "pick-up fiasco"
"my point still stands: i am more than capable of taking the bus home," kai said before eating a spoonful of rice with a bite of the chicken.
he was reminded of a toddler when yeonjun started twisting on his seat. "when you don't have to? soobin and i both have cars that can drive you to university and back home. my schedule is the most flexible, so you can call me any time."
"in the name of your work ethics? that's a lie," kai almost choked when he laughed while eating. soobin was quick to hand him a glass of water with a series of scolding laced with it. "we all know how busy you get, hyungie. same with soobin hyung. i don't want to burden you with something i can simply do on my own."
yeonjun was about to respond, but soobin was quicker. "pause—as much as i know you can get yourself home in one piece, i don't mind driving you home either. you're not a burden, hyuka. not to us, not to anyone."
kai gulped when he realized his mistake. "sorry," he grinned. "but you're not driving me home from now on. no offense, soobin hyung, but we always end up staying extra minutes on campus for all the conversations you manage to score; and yeonjun hyung is just... another phenomenon."
"phenomenon?!" yeonjun gasped. now it was his turn to receive soobin's scolding with the glass of water when he choked.
"you like doing the thing," kai barely managed to say it with the growing redness on his cheeks.
soobin caught on to this; a smirk drew on his lips. "this is getting interesting."
"ugh, whatever. nobody's picking me up. you both embarrass me!"
________________
usually, kai doesn't really mind.
it was already common knowledge in university—or at least in his year—that yeonjun and soobin had another soulmate that goes there. while kai was fairly quiet in class, only speaking when asked or talked to, he was a noise maker. even beomgyu and taehyun know about this despite their different courses and year levels.
why?
apparently, kai was interesting.
"sounds like bull," taehyun chortled. he just heard what his classmates had to say regarding his best friend. "what do you mean 'interesting'-"
"don't you think so? he's our age, but he's a freshman; and his soulmates are choi yeonjun and choi soobin," taehyun doesn't react when his classmate enumerated. "he also looks like a doll. isn't he mixed? i heard he's going to represent his department for the intramurals pageant. we're done for!"
taehyun hollered. "well, he is handsome."
"but don't you find it strange that he has two soulmates?" his classmate added. "no, i mean, there are people with four soulmates, seven, or more; but the fact that he got his mark when he was eighteen and only coming out as yeonjun and soobin's soulmate now when he's probably twenty or something... seem a bit strange."
taehyun clicked his tongue before standing up. "you know what i find strange?" it was rhetorical. "people not minding their own business."
when taehyun sees his best friend waving happily by the cafeteria, he doesn't tell him about the rumors circulating—however, that doesn't mean that kai was clueless.
some people are far too confident, walking directly at him and asking questions about his situation. often times, he answers vaguely and it works just fine; while on rare occasions, he encounters insensitive people that have their head buried deep in their ass as they walk. ("how'd you manage to snatch two hot people and convince them that you're soulmates?" "uhm... excuse me?")
