02:37 - "spontaneous"

kai looks at the sleeping state soobin was in and wishes him good night under his breath. the sleepy head just finished the plates that he's been working on for endless nights—he celebrates by slumping his body on the bed and taking a one-way ticket to dreamland.

when he soaked the sight in just right, kai made his way downstairs where yeonjun was still awake reading a book.

"why aren't you sleeping?" yeonjun immediately asked when he felt his soulmate invade his focused mind with just a single touch of his hand. "it's late."

"early," kai corrected with a silent chuckle. "it's two in the morning."

yeonjun must have failed to noticed. "oh."

"oh," kai mimicked. "we both need to sleep."

"i'm just finishing up this chapter. it's getting so interesting, and i know i can't read this in the morning at work."

"work's been rough?" kai began to settle comfortably in yeonjun's lap. personal space? never heard of her.

yeonjun takes him with a free arm around kai's waist. "incredibly; divorcees left and right. i always thought that it was an easy job since marriages happen between soulmates most of the time, but now i'm wondering if i should have just settled with criminal law."

"why didn't you?"

"for what it's worth now... my life," yeonjun sighed. he looks at kai like he hang the sun and the moon before continuing, "i never used to worry about dying on the job, because i knew that i was always meant to serve the country—as cheesy as it sounds."

kai quickly dismisses. "it's not cheesy."

"it's not," he chuckles. "how ironic that laws are there to protect the people, but working closely is life threatening. i didn't mind it at first, but after having you and soobin with me... i just can't imagine not being with the both of you anymore."

"now, that's a little cheesy," kai quietly jokes to lighten up the mood. "but hyung, why take divorce cases? i thought they're rare."

"they are. all of them loved by choice, without the help of fate, and they ended up in my office," yeonjun frowned. "we're lucky to have each other. god, we're so lucky to find you at the right time. i guess, i started taking divorce cases because they terrified me."

"it's scary to fall in love and to suddenly... not," kai added.

"we're soulmates. falling out of love will never be a problem because you're a part of me. it's like saying i don't want to live with my liver anymore if i ever stopped loving you."

"you never know, hyung. maybe i'm the appendix; a ticking time bomb, needs to be removed."

yeonjun laughs through his nose. it hurts, but he pays it no mind. "then i'll die of appendicitis."

"you're down bad."

"wrapped around your pretty fingers," yeonjun pecked kai's thumb when it came caressing his lips. "we need to sleep."

they shuffle from the couch to stand up, but kai clumsily held yeonjun back down with a muffled laugh. he doesn't know where the sudden burst of energy came from—maybe from being sleep deprived for his finals and his brain is trying to help him survive.

he needs sleep, but he doesn't say that when yeonjun asked him what's wrong.

"i want to dye my hair."

"right now?" yeonjun's eyes widen. he was more than capable of doing it for kai, but looking at the clock, he knew that soobin would flip if he saw them wide awake at 4am.

"mint," kai said, ruffling his blond locks.

"all of a sudden," it was so hard not to be confused. "hyuka, are you sure you're just not tired?"

"positive! i can do it on my own if you want to rest already."

yeonjun doesn't leave. "you're going to be the death of me," he whined. swiftly, he takes kai's bottom lip between his. he nibbles hard enough to make kai squeal shortly in shock, and caresses soft enough to make up for it.

they pull apart. "that was mean."

"i'll take it as a payment," yeonjun winked, albeit failed desperately. "do you have hair dye?"

kai nods excitedly. "right ahead of you."

in the morning, soobin sees yeonjun and kai snuggling on the sofa; fast asleep. he doesn't realize it at first, but gasped when he noticed the new tint on kai's supposed blond hair.

"what happened?" soobin doesn't bother keeping his voice down. it's thursday, a weekday! why are they still sleeping when it's almost rush hour?!

kai was the first to wake up. "good morning, hyung!"

"good morning, baby.. but your hair. i remember falling asleep and it was not that."

"is it ugly?" kai suddenly felt self-conscious.

when soobin saw his soulmate deflate like a defeated balloon, he realized his mistake. "no, no—it's pretty! it looks good on you. i'm just surprised. who changed the color? when?"

"earlier today," kai yawns. "i kinda regret it now because i want to sleep more."

"this is my hair dresser," kai points at yeonjun who, until this moment, was still fast asleep with his head on the younger one's shoulder.

soobin sighs. "as cute as you both look right now. you need to get up and get ready for university—hyung, too, for work."

"good morning kiss?" kai pouts.

it was enough to make soobin weak in the knees.

he leans down to kiss kai's newly dyed hair as well as yeonjun's forehead—not exactly where kai wants the kiss to be.

soobin wasn't oblivious to the whines escaping his boyfriend's lonely lips, but he was stronger than the effect kai had on him. "if you both get up and help me prepare breakfast then maybe i'll give you a smooch."

"this is bribery! i'll call my lawyer on you," kai complained loud enough to wake yeonjun up from his slumber.

before yeonjun could process anything, soobin added: "then no kisses for your lawyer, too."

"woah," yeonjun said, yawning. "objection, your honor."
