"Symbolism is the essence for in the mystery that the mind is, it made me realise what I hadn't yet and maybe it did something to her too"
- Ranbir Kohli

Ice Maiden, that was what he called her and that was exactly how she was dressed! Wrapped in white exquisite robes, her ebony hairs fluttered in the wind. Her signature lavender fragrance spread in the air, enticing him with its aroma. Small silver earrings hung from her ears and a thin chain dropped down from her slender neck. Her stance stiff, her cold eyes were lined with kajal, highlighting their beautiful shape. Her lips were the same natural shade of light red and he found himself completely enchanted!

His eyes remained fixed on her, unable to look away as she walked towards him, the wind caressing her robes with gentle touches. She looked oblivious as she walked while he was anything but! The silence around magnified even as he heard each sound that her earrings made as they moved, that her thin anklets made as she walked and that her robes made as they fluttered.
With each step she took towards him, a warm feeling rose up in his heart. It felt like home, like cinnamon rolls and like a pleasant melody. It made him feel blissful and content.

And then he saw her walk past him, without a single glance, her eyes fixed at a sight far beyond. A cold settled in his heart, his eyes immediately filling up. His hand extended ahead on his own, trying to catch her but just as his arm almost touched her, she moved ahead and trudged on, unbothered! He collapsed on the ground even as his eyes refused to leave her leaving form. The coldness she was synonymous to, seemed to surround him while he gazed at her, the warm feeling receding yet not completely gone.

It then hit him who they were. Who he was and who she was. She would always walk away while he would always walk towards her! The warm feeling in his heart that felt like an entire world increased, enveloping his heart once again! And that was enough to make him understand that be it how many ever times that she might hurt him, he would never be able to stop himself from going back after her, for her. He stood up and followed the path he had seen her go.

Ranbir woke up with a jolt as his head resting uncomfortably against the couch slipped. The dream as it had played a moment back flashed in his mind yet again. He ran his hand through his hair and his entire face even as a bittersweet realisation washed over him.

He loved her!

Tears formed in his eyes simultaneously as a smile formed on his visage. The warm feeling he had dreamt of filled his heart yet again giving him the answer to a question he had never asked! He had never questioned why he felt he had to do something for her or how only he seemed to understand what she was now was because of something that had happened years back or why he went after her or thought about her even after she had hurt him extremely or why he even was hurt by it all! He had never questioned why she had pulled him in even while being cold and unbothered. But today, after he had discovered she had snatched away the one thing that mattered to him the most and hurt him in the worst way possible according to him, the fact that he had pushed himself past that pain and outrage and not harboured any hatred towards her, that he had involuntarily registered the fact that he had to be hurt for her to regain herself back and that he had very much accepted this fact, brought to light the questions he had never felt the need to ask and hence made him realise an emotion he had sung about but never experienced - love!

She woke up with a loud gasp, a nightmare after eons wrecking her entire body. Her head throbbed painfully even as sweat dripped off her forehead. Her breaths came out erratically, her entire body aching, unprepared for an onslaught long forgotten. The moment she had frozen her heart, all the nightmares that had tormented her by replaying moments she did not want to relive had reduced in frequency until they completely stopped. She held her throbbing head in her hands and took deep breaths to calm herself. She then picked up the bottle at her bedside and gulped down half of it.

Resting her head against the headboard, she clenched her fists, angry at the vulnerability she felt at something so slight, again because of him! He was the root cause of all the changes that she had not wanted in her life! But before she could think more along those tracks, flashes of what she had done with him and her nightmare played in front of her eyes. A sharp wave of guilt passed through her, making a larger hole in the ice that covered her long splintered heart.

She looked down, unable to comprehend for the first time in years, what was it that had to be done. And for the first time in years, the ice sought the thought of fire!
