When we arrived at the airport, we took our suitcases and said goodbye to Silke.
We saw Mr Schmidt standing from afar, together with eight classmates. And everyone really looked tired. We are eight girls and seven boys plus Mr Schmidt. Paul, Simon, Markus, Lisa, Christin, Leon and the two chicks from my class, Amelie and Sofie, who were totally made up, were standing with Mr. Schmidt. The two actually had two large pink suitcases with them. "I wonder what they have with them that they need two huge suitcases" whispered Katy next to me. "Hm, good question," I whispered back.
"Ah, Katharina and Amy, you're here," Mr Schmidt said while going through the attendance register.
He wore a plaid shirt, jeans and sneakers. "I wonder when Fabi is coming," I said. "Probably 5 minutes before 6:30 am," Katy said while grinning cheekily.
Fabian Müller, also known as Fabi, is my best friend. I've known him since elementary school. Fabi has beautiful green eyes, freckles and reddish blonde hair. He immediately notices when someone is not feeling well and he is always there for me. If you hear it the way I describe him, you could guess that I'm in love with him (and yes, I am too). For me it was love at first sight.
I looked at my phone because I wanted to know what time it was. It was 6:19 a.m. In the meantime, Laura, Sarah and Julian have also come. We talked a bit. And Katy was actually right, Fabi came 5 minutes before the agreed time together with his buddy Thomas. "It's a good thing you didn't bet, because you would have lost it," she grinned. "Well, now that everyone's here, we can go in," said Mr Schmidt.
So, we entered the airport building and still had to wait because we were only allowed to board the plane at 6:45 a.m. "So, since we still have time, I would like to use it to go through the instruction with you again," Mr Schmidt explained to us. "Oh no," we sighed. I didn't really listen as he repeated the instruction on every trip and we now knew it by heart.
When I looked at my classmates, I saw that no one was really listening to him. I leaned back in the seat and instead of listening, I watched the people go by. When he was finally done, after what felt like an eternity, we boarded the plane and sat down in our seats.
We flew 3 hours and 35 minutes to Tâgru Mureş Airport. A bus picked us up there and took us to our accommodation. After boarding and as the bus drove off, Mr Schmidt beamed with joy: "I haven't told you yet where we're going to live for the week. Well, we're going to live in a castle in the woods." He sounded like a kid who got a huge present for Christmas, he was really happy. The bus ride to the castle took two hours. In the meantime, I slept a little. It was now around 1 p.m. and I was getting really hungry.
Although it was only noon, it was already getting dark and it was chilly. Somewhere ravens were crowing. It came, I think, from the spooky forest right next to the little old chapel next to the castle. It looked like a horror movie set. The oppressive and mysterious atmosphere sent a shiver down my spine.
Suddenly a scream broke the silence, it was Sofie. "Oh no, there's no signal!" she grumbled. I rolled my eyes in annoyance. Suddenly it creaked and squeaked. That was the old heavy castle door which was made of oak. It's only now that I notice that the castle wasn't that big.
Everyone stared intently at the crack in the door. A strange man dressed like a monk stepped out. You couldn't see his face. He looked around nervously and quickly disappeared into the small chapel.
We followed him closely with our eyes. We took turns looking at each other in confusion. "What was that just now?" asked Fabi. "I don't know." But the chapel definitely piqued my interest. I'll take a look at them when I get the chance. "So, I'll pick you up on Sunday," said the bus driver. "I completely forgot that he was still there," Katy whispered to me and Fabi. We nodded to her.
We took our suitcases and were warmly welcomed by the lord of the castle. He was an older man with a Romanian accent who looked at us with a friendly smile. "I bid you a warm welcome," he greeted us. He had black hair with grey highlights that he had brushed back perfectly. He wore a smart suit and black gloves. A bunch of keys hung from his pants. "Please come in," he said. "You can first put your suitcases here in the entrance hall."
The lobby was quite gloomy and large. We put down our suitcases. "Man, that's a hovel," Amelie complained. "Yeah, really," Sofie agreed. "Wow, they always find something to complain about," Katy snorted, annoyed. Mr Schmidt rubbed his hands and said: "We should eat something now and I think that the world will look better afterwards." "It's about time, otherwise I'll die of hunger," said Fabi and rubbed his stomach.
