I woke up in the middle of the night and took a quick look around the room. Everyone was laying in their beds and slept tight. But Sarah wasn't in her bed. I thought she probably went to the toilet for a moment. I turned to the window and continued sleeping.
A light moved in the forest as if someone was walking there with a lantern. The light slowly faded away. My heart was pounding in my throat. At that moment, a feeling of fear came over me.
The next morning, I was woken up by a scream. I saw the other two wake up too. We jumped out of the beds and ran to find out where the scream was coming from.
What I saw there made my blood run cold. I put my hands over my mouth, startled. There in the entrance hall Sarah lay in a pool of blood.
A deep cut could be seen on her neck. The horror was written all over her face. Her grey-blue eyes were wide with fear. Lisa ran towards her and collapsed. Mr Schmidt came running and stopped in shock. "You all go to your rooms at once. Now!" he screamed.
We went back. I sat down on my bed in total shock. Fabi came into our room. Only now did I realize what had just happened.
Tears pooled in my eyes. Fabi came to me and took me in his arms. A howling spasm shook me. He rubbed my back. "Shh, everything's fine," Fabi tried to calm me down. I looked over at Katy who was comforting Lisa. "I-I don't s-understand w-how s-that could happen. She didn't do anything to anyone," Lisa sobbed through tears.
That's right, she was shy, quiet and rather inconspicuous. I liked her because she was friendly to everyone. I went over to her to hug Lisa. When she calmed down a bit, I started to speak: "Tonight I woke up and her bed was deserted, I thought she was in the bathroom." Vladimir came into the room. "Mr Schmidt wants to meet you in the dining room," he said.
We went down. Sarah's body was gone and the blood was wiped away too. Everyone looked at us as we entered the dining room. "Are all there?" asked Mr Schmidt. "I think, we should break off the class trip at this point and return home," he added. "It's not possible because the bus doesn't come until Sunday and it's the only way to get out of here," replied Vladimir.
How Sarah was killed
From Sarah's point of view
I woke up in the middle of the night because I had to go to the bathroom. When I got up, I saw that Amy, Lisa and Katy were sleeping peacefully. So, I snuck out quietly and quickly went to the toilet.
As I was about to go back into the room, I heard footsteps in the entrance hall. I followed them. As quietly as possible, I crept down the stairs. I looked around and was about to leave when I heard a creepy laugh.
It was a cold and soulless laugh. A shiver came over me and goosebumps spread over my body. I looked around and asked loudly, "Who is it?" A hooded man emerged from the darkness.
I couldn't see his face. "What do you want?" I asked him. I saw that he was holding a dagger. I slowly backed away, shaking all over and my heart pounding so hard I couldn't think straight.
The man jumped at me and before I knew it, I was on the ground. My head was pounding from the impact. The guy was on top of me now and before I could scream, I felt pain in my throat and warm liquid ran down. The attacker ran away. A tear rolled down my cheek. And then I got cold. I thought of my family until darkness enveloped me.
The Terrible Find in the Library, again from Amy's point of view
We were all in shock. We had to stay here until Sunday even though there's a murderer on the loose? "That can't be true," I said. We went upstairs to change as we were all still in our pyjamas. Nobody said a word, the shock was so deep.
We changed our clothes in silence and went back, but nobody ate anything. I felt like being followed the whole time. I wondered who did this. Why Sarah had to die, what happened that night and whether it could have been prevented if I had gone looking for her.
We stayed in our rooms all morning, only Fabi stayed with us which made me feel safer. Around noon we went down because we got hungry. There was an oppressive silence. When we were downstairs, Mr Schmidt counted everyone. "Do you know where Laura is?" he asked us. "No, she hasn't been in our room since breakfast," Christin said. "Was she with any of you?" he asked the rest of the class. Everyone shook their heads. "Okay, then we'll look for them. We'll split up for that. But don't go alone. Fabi, Amy and Katy go to the second floor. Amelie, Sofie, Paul and Leon go to the first floor. Lisa, Thomas, Julian and Christin you come with me, we'll search the whole area down here," he said.
We nodded. Fabi, Katy and I went to the second floor. "I hope we find her," I said. The two just nodded silently. We stood in front of the library and I pushed the handle down carefully and would have expected it to be locked. But to my surprise she was open.
We went in and split up. I ran left into the library, Fabi straight ahead and Katy to the right. Laura lay in the corner. Her head was severed from her torso, and her arms and legs lay beside it.
It was awful to see. The killer brutally dismembered her. I backed away and slammed into a shelf. "I-I h-found her," I stuttered. I stood there unable to move. The two came to me. "You look like you've seen a ghost. You're so pale. That's all..." but Fabi didn't get any further because he now saw what I saw.
Before Katy could see it, Fabi said, "Katy, go get Mr Schmidt right away." She nodded to him and ran. I still stood there, unable to move.
Fabi stepped up to me and pulled me away from her and hugged me. It felt good as I really needed it right now.
Katy came running, Mr Schmidt right behind her. Katy came to me and Fabi showed Laura to Mr Schmidt. I saw that Mr. Schmidt was pale like chalk, he turned away and had to throw up. "Fabi, can you please take Amy and Katy to the others in the dining room and tell them that no one should leave the room," Mr Schmidt asked Fabi. He nodded and brought us to the others.
The Death of Laura from Laura's point of view
I was about to go to my room. I took a look towards the stairs and saw a man in a cloak. I wanted to pursue that. I ran up the stairs and then I could see a man disappear into the library. I tried not to make any noise.
As I entered the library, the door slammed shut behind me. "Crap," I cursed under my breath and quickly hid behind a bookshelf. I cautiously looked around the corner, but the man was gone.
A cloth suddenly covered my mouth. My head was slammed against a bookshelf, causing me to collapse to the floor. I say how the man swung back with something that shone silvery. My vision was a little blurry from the impact.
I suddenly felt a sharp pain in my right shoulder. My arm was severed next to it and I saw a puddle of red liquid on the floor. I was so fixated on my right shoulder and didn't notice that he had struck again. This time it was the left shoulder and a pool of blood formed here too. He went down to my legs and chopped off my right leg and then my left. I realized I wouldn't survive this. The pain slowly paralyzed my body. My vision began to fade. He raised his arm one last time...
