We ran back to the others. He laced our fingers and I blushed. When Katy saw us, she beamed at us. "About time too" she said to us. Fabi and I looked at each other blushed and happy. For a moment I was able to forget our situation and the dead as well. Luckily the day passed without any further incidents.

When it was time to go to bed, Mr Schmidt discussed the plan with those who would be on night watch. With him stood Thomas, Fabi, Julian, Vladimir, Markus, Simon and Paul. Fabi wasn't there until around six o'clock in the morning.

He came to me and we lay down together. I snuggled up to him and wrapped his arms around me. He kissed me on the top of my head. I felt very protected.

From Thomas' point of view

I went to bed because I wouldn't be on night watch for two hours after Mr Schmidt. Two hours later I was shaken awake. "Thomas, it's your turn now. After two hours Vladimir will come to relieve you. You don't have to go looking for him, he'll come to you," Mr Schmidt explained to me in a whisper. I nodded and yawned.

We had agreed that whoever is on night watch would stay at the door and I sit in the chair provided. An hour passed and nothing further happened. I was deep in thought that I didn't hear the footsteps moving towards me.

A cloth was pressed over my nose, I wanted to defend myself, but there had to be an anaesthetic on the cloth and I fell asleep. Still a little dazed, I woke up. I could not move my body and had a gag in my mouth. I looked down and saw that I was tied to a wooden pole. I tried to free myself, but I couldn't. It was very dark. Out of the darkness, a person dressed in black, who I would say was male in stature, came walking towards me, holding a torch.

The light made me realize what I was standing on, it was a pyre. This man, I hoped, he didn't intend to, but to my horror, he lit the pyre. The smoke rose in my nostrils and the fire drew nearer. My clothes caught fire and the pain was really unbearable. I had inhaled so much smoke that I lost consciousness.

Back in the castle from Vladimir's point of view

I went on what was called the "night watch." I only did it so I could continue to have the confidence of these plagues. As I sat down, I looked at the sleeping students. One bed was empty, so he'd grabbed one. A mad smile stole in my face. I found it amusing how they all trusted me blindly except for this girl named Amy, she was very suspicious of me.

I suspect she doesn't trust me. By now, it was 1 am. In an hour I would wake up the next one, so as not to draw suspicion on me. When the time came, I went to see Paul. "Paul, it's your turn," I whispered to him, shaking him awake.

He got up and went to the chair and sat down. From his looks, I wouldn't be surprised if he fell back asleep at any moment. "Good night," I said walking out. I went to the basement to check on him. "Have you taken care of Thomas?" I asked him with my mad grin.

"Yes," was the answer I got. "Fine, then I'll get rid of the body or what's left of it". Then I walked out of the basement. I looked at the salon, the brat actually fell asleep again. I grinned because everything went according to plan.

The next morning, again from Amy's point of view

Something stirred next to me, waking me up. It was Fabi who should now keep watch. He saw that I woke up. "Sleep a little more," he whispered to me, smiling. But I was awake now and I certainly wouldn't be able to sleep again. Simon went to bed, because he finished his shift. "I can't sleep anymore so I will keep you company," I told him and stood up as well.

He grinned at me. As he sat down in the chair, he pulled me onto his lap. I enjoyed being close to him. I looked around the room and saw that Thomas' bed was deserted. "Thomas' bed is empty," I said to Fabi. "You're right. I'd better let Mr Schmidt know," he said and got up. He went to Mr Schmidt and shook him awake, who gave him a sleepy look. This sleepy sight of my teacher made me smile. When Fabi explained the situation to him, he quickly jumped up and looked at the deserted bed. He left the room, probably to look for Vladimir, because he was right after Thomas. I went to Fabi and hugged him. Thomas and he have been friends since kindergarten. He tried not to let it show, but I could see that he was getting agitated, not knowing if he was even alive. He hugged me tightly.
