When Megs woke, they were strapped to yet another chair, and they had a massive headache. They groaned softly. Had Xander Lee, a leading physicist, not considered the possibility of simply blindfolding them? Maybe he thought they were too resourceful for that. Whatever his reasoning, Megs couldn't help but feel like they had been duped, and they resented him for that. When they woke, they were in a room that was dark save for the bright, white light shining upon them. They squinted. This wasn't helping Xander's case at all. He'd indicated he was willing to go easy on them, given that they were a literal child- maybe not in spirit, but most certainly in body. Standing in front of them were the familiar faces of John MacNamara and Xander Lee. At least he looked guilty. Almost immediately, the straps that had been restraining them were released, and they furrowed their brows, confused.
"Sorry about those. We didn't have any cots available, and you kept falling off the chair and hitting your head." MacNamara sighed. "We only restrained you to keep you upright."
"That's why I have a headache." Megs muttered.
"My name is General John MacNamara... but you know that, don't you?" MacNamara sighed, pulling up another chair and straddling it in front of them. Megs nodded.
"I'm sorry, can we get some normal lighting in here?" Megs asked, noting the rise in their heart rate. "I'm not hostile. Xander will vouch that I cooperated. And this is kind of freaking me out. You're not going to get any answers out of me if I'm having a panic attack."
"Oh. Right. Sorry. This room was initially set for interrogations." MacNamara nodded. "Xander, turn the regular lights back on."
"But sir, if we turn the lights on they'll see-" Xander started to process.
"Things they already know all about." MacNamara finished for him. "Turn them on."
"Yes sir." Xander blushed, moving and flipping on a switch before turning off the bright lights.
"I've been informed that Agent Lee might have deceived you." MacNamara sighed, looking at Megs. "I apologize. He's the best damn field agent we have, and that means he's overly cautious."
"You knew I wasn't a threat." Megs glared at Xander. "You told me you knew I wasn't a threat."
"There are still precautions I have to take." Xander blushed. "You're an actor."
"I'm a scared kid." Megs snapped. "I don't have the mental capacity to act right now! Do you know what I've been through since I got here? What I've been through today? I am singlehandedly the reason why humanity might survive this- you're welcome, by the way! I never saw PEIP making any moves to figure out a way to end this."
"We didn't know it was going to happen." MacNamara tried to soothe them. "Agent Lee has trust issues. None of that is on you, and we at PEIP would like to offer you a sincere apology for any damage he's done."
"He's not the only one with trust issues, and he certainly didn't help PEIP's case by doing what he did." Megs sighed shakily.
"Would you like anything to drink? Tea? Coffee?" MacNamara offered.
"I'm not drinking anything unless I can be certain it hasn't been tampered with." Megs shook their head.
"That's completely fair." MacNamara sighed. "Do you feel mentally ready for a few questions surrounding your situation?"
"Honestly? No. But I don't think we have the time for me to become ready, so you might as well just start asking." Megs sighed.
"Alright... first and foremost, do you have any knowledge of how you got here?" MacNamara asked.
