"𝐒𝛐, 𝐰𝐡𝛐 𝐢𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 chick anyway?" Bucky sighs and slumps down in the chair, spreading his legs further.

"That's the thing," Steve says with that thoughtful look on his face, and he keeps scratching his bearded chin. Bucky takes the glass of whiskey and flushes it down his throat, the smoky flavour mixing with the burn. Steve always gets the good stuff. "No one knows anything about her. She's involved with Hydra, but that's about all we know. The police have put one hell of a bounty on her... I kinda used to know her."

"How much?" He asks while sitting up a little straighter, deciding to not ask how Steve knew her.

It doesn't seem like the thing he wants to keep talking about, anyway. He's more interested in the girl anyway. Hydra always gets the people they want. He knows that for a fact, but somehow, she's avoided that.

"Last I heard, it was three million-"

"Three million fucking dollars!?" Bucky grasps the armrest, metal fingers digging through the fabric before he remembers his own strength. "That's fucking life-changing... What's the catch?"

"We're not sure," Steve says and tilts his head to the side. "Somehow, she's stayed out of their claws for almost two years... she used to be a good kid. I dunno what happened to her."

Bucky scratches his scruff with the metal hand. That kind of money is the real deal and the kind he needs. Dealing with bounties where there's so little info is always harder, takes more time, and it's a gamble but even those rarely have three million as a reward.

He doesn't exactly have money for the next payment, either. Hell, with three million, he can do more than just pay. Bucky picks up the file Steve has thrown on the table, and he thumbs through it, picking up the basic information. How she's escaped does interest him, that takes someone special.

"Hydra can't get a 26-year-old from Minnesota?" Bucky snorts.

There's a single photo of her. If you could call it that. It's the back of a brunette's head, but the guy was the one in focus when the photo was taken. They're in a crowd of people, and she's wearing a tight black dress, formal. The type he saw when he was younger. When he was still with Hydra.

"The guy, right?" Bucky asks and Steve looks back from where he's staring out of the window.

"Yeah. It's Pierce's son."

Bucky knows Pierce better than most. He's been the leader of Hydra for the last ten years, but he usually stays in the background and operates everything from the shadows. His jaw tenses as he's reminded of the years he spent working for Hydra. They were some of the most brutal. They make him sick. Especially because he's still so damn good at doing what they taught him.
