John Adams - "The shortest road to men's hearts is down their throats."

"Please listen to me baby, just two days of being away, before you know it, I'll be back."

"Before you know it, you can always choose kaduna Zayba, you're married and you're supposed to stay where your husband stays , but you choosed to leave me here, all by myself."

"I thought you'd understand this, why are you making it hard?"

"Who's going to cook for me? Who's going to be here when I return from work? Who is going to pamper me? No one! Zayba No one! Well best of luck!"

"Please don't be angry about this, please!"

"Okay, I've heard you, now close the door behind you, I need some time alone."

"Are you pushing me away, I thought we promised to stick to each other no matter how tough it gets? Please baby, I'll make it up to you. I promise."

The angry man didn't utter a word, he was lost in his head, thinking about God knows what or perhaps he was just ignoring her on purpose.

She didn't leave him alone, she stayed in the room, sat on the side of the bed held his large palms in her small ones as she rested on the side of the bed and just listened to the silence.

They couldn't remember falling asleep, they both woke up surprised.

"Good morning baby, what time is it?" Zayba asked.

"Morning, I don't know, don't you have a clock in the house?"

"Baby please let this be, let's not fight, you know I hate to fight with you."

"If you did you'd seek for my advice before filling the form online." He says before leaving for the bathroom.

She followed right behind him, they both performed ablution and came out to pray, the couples prayed together and moved to do their various house chores.

They both laid their bed, having eye contacts occasionally and refusing to talk to one another.

Fuad went downstairs to dust the cushions and electronics, and she hurried to the kitchen to make breakfast.

She made Bread, sardine and egg sandwiches as it was his favorite, poured a scoop of Nescafé classico in the coffee maker, turned it on and heated coffee for him.

She set the table and waited patiently for him to come to the dining, it took too long for him to come down and when he did he said "I'm off, see you later Enugu girl."

"Baby aren't you having breakfast?"

"Yes, bye."

"Please baby don't do this to me, I said I was sorry, I still am, please, okay, I understand you're late but atleast eat something, take a few bite."

"Nope thank you!" He said as he adjust his necktie in the console mirror just before the door.

She then rushed to the kitchen packed the sandwiches in a paper bag, poured the hot coffee into his black thermo water bottle, took her steps in two and met him at the parking lot.

"I understand you're angry, but please don't stay hungry, eat something at work." She said as she tossed it in the front seat.

"Okay ma! Bye for now!" He said with a straight face.

It hurts so much that she couldn't get him to smile or even eat something. Nevertheless she went back to the leaving room had a few hours on Netflix before she made lunch.

She prepared biryani chicken knowing he'll definitely eat it, cause the way to a mans heart is through his stomach, food, and this food is definitely the one he likes she just prayed that he eats it and not make a deal out of it.

He came home after zuhr and went straight to his room, with a long face, he took a cold bath and began to work on his computer.

Zayba waited too long to have him come down to eat, but he refused. She then made her mind up to go up and persuade him with all the sweetness in her.

"Asslamualaikum, can I come in."

"Wslam, it your house too you can do whatever it is that you want to."

She stepped in quietly " baby?"

"Yes?"

"I see you brought work home today."

"Yes I did."

"I was thinking we'd have lunch together as I made your favorite."

"Awwn that's good of you, I'll eat later, I'm not hungry yet."

"Please don't say that, I know you so well, and you wouldn't want to miss this feast."

she said fidgeting her fingers, as she stood by his side.

She took a fast move and landed on his laps, made sure she held a strong eye contact with him and begin to explain how it happened to be Enugu when it could have been kaduna or kano or Maybe a place nearby, over and over again until he said.

"Okay baby, I'll eat, bring the food up here, I'm too tired to go back down there."

"Yay! I will." She said and gave a rib cracking hug as he placed his soft lips on her forehead.
