Warehouse / Bedford / 11.47am

Alfie and David drove slowly through the industrial warehouses looking at the passing buildings.

"There." Alfie nodded.

David looked to see an enormous red brick building with large loading bay doors. He drove them inside and came to a stop. It was a vast space with a concrete floor and bare brick walls. Around the edges were piles of old pallets, and large wooden crates.

The place appeared unused with no man around. At the opposite end of the extensively long building was a grey Bentley. As Alfie and David pulled up, Tommy exited the Bentley, cigarette in hand and walked towards them.

He watched Tommy walk back to the Bentley, open the car door and then turn to look at him.

"For business reasons or in bad blood, I will kill ya, Alfie."

Then Tommy got into the Bentley and Alfie watched as it drove away and out of sight. He then looked across the floor to the scattered papers, the blood and finally, David.

"FUCK!" shouted Alfie.

His booming voice echoed around the brick walls as he made his way back to the van and drove it next to where David laid.

Alfie strained to lift his friend into the van, dragging and lifting a dead weight was a feat like no other. Thirty five, he thought, as he struggled under the weight.

With David secured in the back and doors closed, Alfie climbed behind the wheel and began his journey home.

Home / 150 Camden Street / 2.29pm

The black A.B.C company van pulled up outside the Solomons home where Alfie sat frozen behind the steering wheel. Eventually, he turned off the engine, climbed out and made his way inside to find Malka.

"Alfie?"

He stopped on the landing outside the drawing room door expecting, or more accurately hoped, that Malka would still be in bed. Agitated she wasn't, he went in to see her. He entered the room to find Malka sat in her usual chair reading one of her journals.

"I need you to come with me." he requested officiously.

She looked at him, waiting for more details but they didn't come. Putting down her journal she followed Alfie outside to the van.
