October, Year 2022
"Did your seniors Blackpink congratulate you on your debute?"
One of the hosts asked and I smiled. "Yes. We had met them a few times before the official debute at company," I told them. "They even gave us a few advices on how to make it in the industry, like the mindset and all."
We were doing a radio show today. I glanced at Ruby and she nodded as she leaned forward to the mic, "Jisoo Sunbae even called us on the day of our debute and conveyed their congratulations. It was really heartwarming."
Everyone went awe on the information. "Well, we hope that Midnight Blue5 comes back even stronger than before. Thank you for joining us on the radio show." The host clapped and we all bowed to the staff and the hosts as we wrapped up the interview and stepped out of the room.
My phone pinged, and I read a text from my friend, Miyoung. 'You did too good for a live radio show. Dinner tonight?' I texted her back that we were preparing for the SBS Gayo Daejeon right now and had a practice session till late night. She sent me a sad emoji and a thumbs up.
I lifted my head when saw Teal and Olive fighting over a keychain the host had given us. I went to the scene. The manager was shaking his head. Lavender was making a video and Ruby was trying in vain to get in between the two youngsters of the group. As we stepped out of the building, I took the keychain from Teal and handed it to the manager as the camera flashes blinded us for a brief moment.
"Violet! Violet. There's a rumor that you're dating the ceo of the company!" One of the haters barked in the crowd. Since they all had face masks on we couldn't sue since it was hard to pin point from where the screams were coming from. "Violet, did you really sleep with the ceo to get into the group!"
With haters, our lovers were here too. "Olive! We love you." "Teal, fighting!" There were a lot of chants coming from the fans for each of us. They were gathered there too. Everyone cheered up when we all bowed at them. Teal and Olive made a heart and Lavender and Ruby followed. I only waved to the crowd.
Contrary to belief that maknae position was the most popular in the group, I topped the popularity vote. Being the second eldest, debuting at 19 was frowned upon when I was first revealed as a member of the girl group, but it settled down after the debute stage. I hated the attention that I got first but with time I came to accept it.
Why? Because with attention came hate. My group members were pretty young, barely teenagers, and I would rather have all the harassment than them going through it.
We were the most hated group of the fourth generation.
The new girl group under YG Entertainment. 'Midnight Blues'. It was written as Midnight Blue5 though, since we were a group of five members. We each had a different name besides Ruby. She was the only one who debuted with her real name. I and others were given a specific color as a stags name. Violet (that's me. I'm the leader of the group), Ruby (older than me by seven months), Lavender, Teal, Olive (the maknae). We weren't given official positions as in centre, visual or anything apart from the leader position.
We debuted in the late 2022, and had been a target of literally every single hater out there. No matter what fandom a person belonged to, they were ought to harass us whether online or offline as we were mobbed in the airports or parking lots.
In the beginning, we expected it because the fans of our senior group Blackpink were insecure and troubled, and were unsure of what future our Sunbae would have now that a junior group had debuted. I expected it. We all did. But it got out of hand when other 'scandals' started making rounds on the internet. Scandals that were bizzare.
