"Midnight Blues is the new generation."
Teal stood in front as we all lined up behind her. The beat dropped as we started our performance with a bang. We might be hated for a lot of reasons, but I knew people saw us as good performers. Today we were at the music bank for our first comeback stage.
Our song 'Lovers and Haters' dropped last week and had been breaking quite a few records. The tricky thing about this stage though was the dance steps that we had to do in the first half. They weren't tough, but a bit uncomfortable with the dresses we were provided with today.
"Look at the mess you created, pissed off by the fact that I made it," I sang my English lines and slid behind Lavender as she started singing in Korean.
I noticed her dress rising up her thigh as she bend over to do a step. I glanced at Olive and saw her dancing comfortably. Since she and Teal were still under 18, they had a set of comfortable clothes. My eyes went to Ruby, and I saw her pulling down her dress. Fortunately, the whole performance finished without other troubles.
I grabbed my jacket from the staff member, and handed it to Lavender. She smiled gratefully. I glanced at Ruby who looked upset as she walked into the green room. Sighing, I saw my other members walking ahead as I went to do my MC job. Today both of the regular MCs had taken a leave for the day, so I was asked to fill in. I changed my clothes and went to the interview place.
Enhypen Jake stood there. His posture stiff as he turned around to look at me. "Anyonghyesyo." I bowed to him and he bowed back. We were both Australians. Same age. People shipped us. Today we were going to stand by each other. What a great publicity move.
"Oh Hi." He smiled and bowed. Then he paused, and looked up. "I... You lived in Australia before coming here, right? Like we can talk in English," he blurted out when I kept staring at him.
"Oh yes," I nodded, clearing my throat. We had done only one interview today and that was of my group. "Okay. Let's revise the list," I mumbled under my breath and scanned the names on the card. He stood beside me as we talked over how we were going to greet the upcoming groups. "Have you done this before?"
Jake grimaced. "Not really."
That made me laugh. "Yeah?" I shook my head. "The next one is Aespa and then next to them is Nmixx," I revised some points and he gave me a few suggestions too.
The busy day ended like that.
And then my leader mode was back on. I went to the company headquarters with my manager. I had asked our newly appointed stylist to be present there too. She gave me a slicing look when I walked into the meeting room. One of the higher ups sat down on the head chair, and asked me to proceed with the issue.
"Seeing your posture and defensive act, I gather you already know what it is about, ma'am." I tilted my head and looked at the woman. Then I turned to the man who was responsible for taking care of our problems. "Our dresses were too short for us to perform comfortably on stage."
"You all looked gorgeous and had an equal opportunity to shine," the woman said. "I didn't do any favouritism."
"I never accused you of that," I looked towards her sharply. "I would not have made a big deal out of it if we were only singing and not dancing our heart out. I believe that we must be given dresses according to our choreo." I turned to the officials. "You don't want us to have a wardrobe malfunction. Right?"
"We'll look into it." He stood up and left the hall. The lady was fuming with anger as she followed him out.
I slouched in my seat. "Do you think I was wrong to say that?"
