I was not allowed to date.
One of the first rules of being a trainee or a rookie idol was that you were not allowed to have any romantic relationship with someone. It was an easy thing to do. Well, most of the times. Being a trainee or a rookie would suck your life so faithfully that you won't really have a chance to think about romance stuff. So, yeah it was easy for me.
But not for everyone.
My best friend Miyoung was the perfect example for this situation. The rumoured member of the new girl group SM was going to debute soon. She and I became friends as we both were SM trainees at one point in my life. Our dinners and walks were always together. We had a dream. To debute together. Shame, it didn't happen.
"You... Do you really... About Soobin, I mean..." Miyoung's words were all over the place just like her expressions. To her credit, the girl tried hard to keep her calm, but I could see it.
Fans shipping me with Soobin bothered her. Addition, she hadn't debuted yet. Her frustration was real.
Miyoung was the quietest girl I knew, but whenever it came to Soobin, her whole world would shatter. It was like she would wake up abruptly from her sleep. At first I thought it was a simple crush. I mean, she never believed in 'love at first sight', but I guess she changed her mind. Love could do that to you, I guess.
"I was smiling at Beomgyu Sunbae." I shook my head. "I don't even know from where people get the impression that I was looking at Soobin sunbae. Really."
She frowned. "I don't really... I don't really have a problem if something happens between you and him, you know." She forced a smile. "It's not like he's mine or anything. He doesn't even notice me."
I stared at her. My first instinct was to ask her to move on. It had been years already. Soobin was weird, no offence. How could he not see her buzzing around him like a bee? Every time she met him, he would need an introduction as if he never had seen her before. It was disappointing.
If it wasn't for being a professional idol, I would have gone to TXT leader myself to ask him what was wrong with him. How could he not remember Miyoung after these many encounters over the years?
"Tell me about yourself. Are you doing okay?" Miyoung covered my hand with hers. "First that ceo thing, then Kevin... I'm worried about you, Ae-Cha."
"Don't be." I squeezed her hand. "I'm doing fine. It's no big deal. Some people don't have better things to do. It's better to ignore them, but yeah... I've threatened to sue them for now. I hope they stop this madness."
After her, I was on my way to meet Sunhee. It was my day off. My cousin was shooting for a cameo in the drama written by her friend. She was also an actress under YG actor corner. It was on her recommendation that I joined this company and left SM. The biggest gamble of my life. Didn't expect it to work out the way it did, but I was thankful nonetheless.
I shared my location with my manager. Another rule for us was that we needed to keep our manager updated about our current place. It was more of a security concern than anything. At least, that was how I saw it.
Sunhee was shooting her cameo scene when I arrived on the drama set. Eyes turned to me and I bowed to everyone. Being an idol came with a lot of attention, so I wasn't really surprised when staff members around me broke into whispers. Few of them asked for my autograph. I complied with a smile.
"Grabbing the spotlight for yourself, dear cousin. Classic you." Sunhee came to me with a grin. Instead of greeting me, she pulled my jacket close, and frowned. "It's cold out here and you're still being fashionable? What's wrong with you?"
