Chapter Two

Jack frantically grabbed Morris and used him as a shield from Oscar
Me and the others cheered as Jack beat the Delancys at their own game. Suddenly he pushed them both into the crowd of newsies surrounding him and then began to climb up the gate and the rest of us cheered and laughed, suddenly the gates started to open as me and Racetrack pushed our way into the building and were the first ones in, Jack climbed down a rope and joined beside us both
"That was brilliant yous two!" Racetrack praised  us
"Thanks Race!" Jack said chuckling
"You're to kind Race, your to kind!" I said giggling
We walked to the front desk to get our papes forming a line
Jack was fake punching a pole when the Delancys brothers walked by us
"We'll play again tomorrow cowboy!" They said furiously
I went and joined Jacks side giving the Delancys an angry glare
"Yeah I'd like that!" Jack replied
"Yous two are as good as dead!" They both replied while waking inside
"Lady's first!" Jack said sarcastically with a grin
"Nah you earned first place taday cowboy!" I said insisting he went first
"Aight whatever!" He said while waking up to the desk
"Mr Weasel?" He teased
"Oh Mr Weasel!"
He said knocking on the shutter
"Aight hold your horses, hold your horses!" Mr Weasel repeated
Suddenly the shutter opened up
"So did ya miss me?" Jack asked Mr Weasel
"It Mr Wisel to you, how many?" Mr Weasel asked
I was talking to Mush and Racetrack about how the headlines have been the other weeks
"Next!" Mr Weasel roared
I walked up to the front desk
"How many girly?" He asked
"100 per usual Weasel!" I stated while slamming my money down on the desk
"100 papes to the sly one!" Mr Weasel shouted to Morris
Morris suddenly came back with all my papes
"Ya talk cheap, you and you're brother" I said before walking off, he practically jumped through the bars trying to talk back but I ignored him. I quickly counted them before joining Jack who was reading his newspaper
Me and Jack both sat talking whenever Racetrack joined us
"So what's new taday en?" He asked while viewing one of the many papers he had, we all sat reading until I suddenly heard something
"I asked 20 I only got 19" someone stated
I quickly jumped to my feet to see a face I hadn't recognised as a newsies but as the uptown fella who acted like a stick is stuck up his ass
"You accusing me of lying kid?" Weasel asked
I didn't know the kid but I hated Weasel so obviously took the boys side.
I walked up beside the boy and counted the papers
"Nah it's 19 Weasel..." I stated
Jack eventually noticed I wasn't beside him anymore and quickly walked over beside me
"It's nineteen, but ats alright cause ya see Morris hear couldn't count the twenty with his shoes on!" I said
Morris quickly jumped at the bars annoyed at my funny remark
"Morris get him his pape!" Weasel demanded
Morris handing the boy another pape when Jack suddenly swooped in and handed him another two bits
"Anodda fifty for ma friend ere!" He said
"No I don't want another fifty!" The boy replied
"Of course ya do!" Jack insisted
Morris quickly got the other papes as Jack took them and gave them to the boy. We all walked down of the ramp and to the main area of the building
"Look I don't even know yous alright I don't want your papes! I'm no charity case!" He shouted at me and Jack
"It's Cowboy and Mad dog, that's what there called!" A small kid who wasn't familiar to me answered
"Yeah all that and a lot of other things!" Jack said while scoffing
"But we prefer to be called the names out mudda's called us, Ava Smith and..." I replied
"Jack Kelly!" Jack added on
"What do ey call you kid?" I asked bending down to the kids level
"Les and this is my brother David!" He replied
"He's older!"
Jack quickly handing his papes for Mush to carry
"Oh yeah no kidding!" I said as me and Jack laughed
"So how bout we all be partners en Les!" Jack asked him
"Oh yeah!" Les agreed excitedly
"Wait! Who said anything about partners!" His obnoxious older brother said grabbing Les and holding him tight
"Well you owe us fifty bits!" Jack demanded
"Yeah, so?" David replied confused
"Well I'll take that as a compromise we work tagether we split 70-30 and you get to watch me work no charge!" Jack said being his cocky self
"Ya learn from Jack ya learn from da best!" I said trying to convince David to take the deal
David scoffed at how Jack viewed himself to be the best
Me and Jack both scoffed right back at David
"What are you his sales man, or his little follower?" He said to me
"We're our own salesmen, and I ain't no follower" I replied
"Then why are you telling me lies just so I can agree?" He asked me with a bad attitude
"Cause we're a bunch of underpayed kids, and you're a uptowner. We need the money and you're an oblivious rich fellas who has no street sense and is way to easy to fall for any scam that hits em" I said whilst making extreme eye contact without a blink
"So deal?" I said
"It's got to be 50-50!" David demanded
"Yano what Davey 60-40 we'll forget da whole thing!" I said putting out my hand
He stuck out his to shake on it but I quickly spat on it first to seal the deal, but suddenly David wasn't gonna shake my hand me and the other newsies including Jack were all confused
"What's da mattah?" Mush asked
"That's disgusting!" He complained
All the newsies laughed at how much of a clean freak he was before we all headed of to sell our papes.
