Chapter Four

Les gave a cute little smile before grabbing something from behind him, he pulled out a newspaper and did a little cough
"Buy me last pape, lady?" He asked in a British accent
"Awk!" Medda said gasping
She turned round to me and Jack giggling
"Oh he is good, vey good! I mean from one professional to another I'd say you have a bright future!" She said to him with her beautiful smile
"Hey Medda! Do you mind if we stay just till our problem outside goes away?" I asked her
"Sure stay as long as you like!" She said patting my shoulder
"We'll I've go to to go on stage but Toby give my guest whatever they want!" She said before making her way back on stage
"Come on Davey!" I said pushing David to the other side of the stage to watch Medda preform.
She angelically swayed across the stage singing as we all sat admiring her. The show had finished and we where walking out side, it was very late at night
"Guys I'm gonna go home!" I said
"Oh alright!" Jack replied
"Wait Ava!" Les screamed after me
I turned round to see him running after me
"Yeah?" I asked
"Here have some gumdrops!" He said filling my hands with sweets
"Aww thanks Les!" I said while shoving them in my pocket
I gave him a pat on the head before leaving
"See ya Ava!" David shouted to me
"Bye bye, now!" I replied waving back at them.
I walked through the empty and dark streets to the lodging house, I walked through the door as the sound of laughing and chatting as smoke filled my lungs. I decided it was too loud down there and I should go upstairs to get some peace and quiet, when I got into the main area I saw mush lying if his bed reading peacefully
"Heya Ava!" He said glancing up from his book
"Heya Mush! Whatcha reading?" I asked sitting at the bottom of his bed
"Oh just some book bout someone going to war and stuff!" He replied
"Oh cool!" I responded with a smile
"Wanna read wit me!" He asked me moving over to make room for me beside him
"Sure!" I replied
I cuddled beside him as he read his book to me, we both ended up fallen asleep together.
The next day we woke up by Kloppman screaming people names annoyingly
"So must've had the best sleep of your life last night!" Mush said to me smirking
"What are you playing at?" I asked him confused and nervous
"You were saying ma name in your sleep!" Mush replied joking with me
"Oh yeah you wish!" I shot back at him playfully giving him a nudge
"Oh look you were even drooling!" He added on laughing at a drool stain on the pillow
"Mush..." I replied trying no to burst of laughing
He looked at me waiting for my response
"That's your side of the pillow!" I said giggling
His face suddenly went from smiling and smirking to shocked and embarrassed,
"Nah I always drool!" He said trying to avoid the situation
"Yeah definitely!" I replied patting him on the shoulder
We both talked for a view more minutes before heading off to the hygiene station where I met Jack again
"How was last night en?" I asked him
"Oh yeah it was great, I went back to davey's place and got some soup!" He replied while picking up a wet cloth and rubbing his face with it
"Hey can we stop by the refuge again taday" he asked
"Yeah sure!"
I replied before we went our separate ways to get ready for the day.
Suddenly all the newsies left to go to get there papes but me and Jack quickly went up to the refuge to give the kids some food
"Heya Ava!" A small child said happy to see me
"Hiya, here!" I said handing him some food
"Oh and take some for the other Aight!" I said to him
"Thanks! Cowboy up ere?" He asked me
"Yeah, Jack say hello!" I shouted up to him
"Heya!" Jack faintly shouted
"We'll be back tonight alright!" I said giving him a smile
"Alright!" He replied returning the smile I gave him.
Me and Jack were walking to the circulation building to were the rest of the newsies were
"Jack, Ava come quick!" I heard blink shout
Me and Jack quickly ran up to the main area and saw all newsies standing around in crowd together, no one had paper In there hands
"Jack what are we gonna do man!" Blink said frustrated
"Wait hold-" was all I got to say before I got interrupted by Jack
"Guys what yous standing around for you know the drill!" Jack shouted confused
I kept trying to ask what was going on but I was just being ignored, I sat up on top of a cart their watching and listening to the conversations below me.
