Tears were falling down your face in a river. Trembling hands clasped over to your mouth, you tried to muffle your sobs as much as you can. You tried to block your surroundings, to suppress the havoc and chaos outside the little pharmacy, but how could you ignore the blood-chilling sounds of shots blending with the screams of passersby. All you wanted was to flee away from this hell on earth, to go back to the safety of your house, but your body, your every cell was paralyzed. You could not move a millimeter. And even if you could, going out would be signing a death certificate. When you left your house to grocery shop at the mall, never you would have ever thought you would find yourself in the middle of a gang fight. But it had been the daily life of Tokyoïtes for years now. The Bonten gang was the most powerful and feared in the country. And yet, smaller gangs still tried to overthrow them resulting in gunfights anywhere in the city. Any street could potentially become a battlefield. And that was what was happening.
"Fuck! They hold better than I expected!"
You froze.
You stopped trembling. You stopped breathing. You stopped thinking. A cold chill ran down your spine as the few colors that were on your face just vanished for good. Fright just multiplied as you tried not to break down. The slightest sound, the tiniest move could give you away. And if happens, it could be the end.
"Koko's division on the west side, we gotta help them,"
Slowly and in the loudest silence, you looked behind. Peeking between the shelves, you distinguished two men. One was dressed in a suit while the other was casually dressed in black pants and a shirt of the same color. You didn't know who they were exactly, but you knew which gang it was. Despite not seeing their tattoos, she could not forget Koko's name. You were once friends before things took another turn.
Even though you couldn't see their face, you still had an idea of who was it the same pharmacy you were. You recognized the voice of the second of the gang, and the infamous black but simple attire of the leader himself. For a moment, you stayed hidden, watching them searching for medicaments and bandages. For a moment, you did not budge. It had been ten years you hadn't seen him. It had been ten years you hadn't been in the same room as him. It had been ten years since you hadn't been this close to him. And just like years prior, your heart bubbled with a lost joy and merriness. You knew you shouldn't feel this way. He was not the same guy he was twelve years ago. Though despite everyone that happened since, despite everything he had done since, your heart was still longing for him. Your body was still longing for his. After all these years, your feelings for him did not waver. This forbidden love didn't fade away. You shouldn't love him. And yet.
Shutting your eyes and mentally slapping yourself, you decided to leave. It was not the moment to be blinded by nostalgia and childhood love. He was not the same. She had heard of the many crimes he had committed or ordered. While he would have done everything to protect you once, now, you were certain he wouldn't hesitate to pull the trigger on you. You were not safe. Not anymore.
