Chapter Seventy-Six: Sleepwalking into an Emotional Nightmare

Bakugo didn't push you for further details. He allowed you to calm down, refusing to leave until he knew that you were stable. You didn't sleep well. You sleepwalked to the kitchen three times that night. Bakugo had left you out milk, but you never saw him.

You were having trouble eating the week up until the day before the School Festival. Everyone had been so distracted they didn't notice how dark the circles had become beneath your eyes, how your hands shook when you picked up anything, or how much weight you'd lost despite testing new cookie recipes. Actually, not everyone didn't notice. Bakugo noticed. His crimson gaze would follow you worriedly across the room. His hands would pause over his drum kit when he saw you. He left notes for you, left snacks behind. You never ate them, the previous conversation you had with Kobura making your stomach churn.

Kobura didn't call you again. The only indication that he was still paying close attention to you was that your phone would continuously scan for viruses. You wondered if he was afraid that you didn't want to speak to him. You didn't think if he spoke to you again that you would feel any better about the situation.

I'm safe, you reminded yourself. I'm safe here.

You'd overestimated your ingredients. You wouldn't have enough royal icing for all of the sugar cookies. It was getting later and later by the minute, but you couldn't stop. It would be more dangerous to go out at night for the ingredients than in the morning. You'd need special permission to leave campus for it, but... was it safe? No, it wasn't even close to being safe after what Kobura had confided in you. Yet, your hand was clutching the permission slip with restlessness. You'd already filled it out, signed it yourself. No one else could go out to the market. They all had their respective jobs to get done. You would be fast, it would be in the daylight.

Sato hadn't been as available as he previously thought he would be. He couldn't help you at all. The dance routine was complicated, and he admitted that he hadn't picked up on the steps as fast as the others. Midoriya was forced onto to the Special Effects Crew so he could hold the rope that Aoyama would swing on. You felt guilty for it. Had you been worried less about your quirk reacting to the crowd, you might have done it in his stead. Midoriya let you know it was okay because he would still get to dance at the beginning of the performance, but you knew how much it meant to him to perform the dance routine in front of Eri as he had promised.

You jolted awake, not realizing you had started to nod off. You nearly knocked a bowl full of dough off of the counter and caught it clumsily. Some of the contents landed on your permission slip, smudging the numbers. You placed the bowl up on the table with a sigh.
