"We truly appreciate your help, miss," Madam Heidi whimpered through the phone. "You have no idea how much this means to us."
Y/N's grip around the receiver tightened. "I just don't understand why the City Council's rejected your request to renew your funds."
"That makes the two of us," Madam Heidi sighed. "We're barely getting by. Bills are getting in the mail and the children in here are in need of immediate help."
"Will the money that I gave you be enough to cover the expenses, madam?"
"Oh, it's more than enough, miss. We could totally clear off our debts with this huge amount."
"That's a relief," Y/N subtly grinned. "Your foster home's raised a lot of youth through the years and as a kid who had once dwelled within your doors, the least I could do to repay you is this."
"Please, miss," Madam Heidi begged. "Tell us your name. We would love to know who you are."
"I don't think it's necessary, madam."
Y/N marched through the empty corridors, ignoring the muffled grunts coming from her men as they heaved the three officers out of the scene. The gruesome broadcast had already ended and to celebrate her dark success, she decided to call a local orphanage to keep up with her recent donation. While doing so, her studded boots led her to a particular room. She could hear someone struggling from the other side of the door, causing her lips to curl into a bemused smirk.
Inspector Kang greeted her with a rather chaotic surprise. There before the window he stood, banging against the barricade with his bare fists. Cuts and splinters scarred his knuckles, creating a splash of purple, red, and blue hues. The young detective paused upon acknowledging the criminal's presence. Scowling, he paid her an annoyed glance.
"The nuns are out to purchase food and other necessities for tomorrow's grand supper," Madam Heidi delightfully chirped. "The children deserves to dine with wellness. May God grace their souls."
"Sounds exciting," Y/N eyed her captive. "It's a shame that I wouldn't be able to come though."
"We would love it if you do," the woman cooed. "But you seem like an incredibly busy person, so it's fine."
"I'll make sure to send you gifts. With all the money I have left, I suppose it's enough to spare you a couple more presents."
Inspector Kang stiffened. It didn't take the genius of him to recognize Madam Heidi's airy pitch and from what he had heard, she seemed ecstatic. The feeling of disbelief made his heart clench. Like a cup of bitter espresso in the middle of winter. It was dreadful. Sickening.
