The clouds gathered together from above, forming a darkness outside. My head tilted back as I stared at the hidden sky, watching as small sparks of water slowly splattered on my skin. Rain.
Most people hated the rain. It prevented us from escaping to the outdoors, and it's gloomy scenery reflected the emotions we endure as soldiers. Yet I stood outside, allowing myself to absorb this weather as well as my uniform which was soaked with rainwater.
Training was cancelled due to the inclement weather, so most of us took this as a rest day. I couldn't rest though, I didn't want to. As a result of my memories coming back, I started getting nightmares every night. The kind that wake you up energized because you don't wanna go back to sleep.
I relaxed under the sound of the water droplets landing onto the different surfaces, creating multiple tones that mixed together. This quickly disappeared when a gust of wind left me covered in goosebumps. I shuddered as my drenched clothes froze my skin.
I guess it was time to get back inside. I headed back to the doors that welcomed me with the warmth contained by the walls. I took further steps in, noticing how dim the hallways appeared to be through the lack of light the windows had to offer. In addition to that, it was surprisingly silent. I assumed that everyone had decided to sleep in late, it was the perfect day to rest.
"oh! finally someone who's awake!" Hanji approached me with a stack of paperwork in her hands, "mind dropping these off in Levi's office?"
I shook my head with a nod, taking the papers from her.
She smiled brightly, "thank you! I'll be in my lab if you need anything" she patted my head and walked away.
I stiffened at the feeling of her hand making contact with my head, but shook it off and pivoted my heels in the direction of the captains quarters. By now, I know well enough that he's awake. It's more unpredictable to know when he sleeps.
I stood across from the door that was engraved with his name. Part of me felt sorry that I was about to hand captain a large stack of paperwork to add to his collection. But Hanji asked me to send these to him, and I can't just refuse. It is what it is.
I firmly knocked on the door, awaiting approval from the other side.
No response.
I raised my fist again, hesitant to knock again. No, I'll just give it more time.
So I waited longer, longer than it should take to respond. Is he ignoring it? I pressed my ear against the door, and listened for any noise. Nothing.
I sighed, walking in the direction of Hanjis lab. I walked inside, and she turned around quickly by the sound of my boots clacking against the floor.
"I don't think Captain is in his office" I said to her.
"Oh, well in that case just quickly go in and leave the papers on his desk!"
She was asking me to just walk into his office so causally? Is that even allowed?
Hanji walked over to me, handing me keys.
"it's usually locked, so just give these back when your done" the keys were placed into my hands, and I nodded.
Once again, I was in front of the door. Before I'd try unlock it, I twisted the handle to see it by any chance the door was already unlocked. It wasn't.
