Rain.

It started raining.

It was okay, bearable, with the windows up and the air conditioning on. But the minute Colt started singing to Kurama in a baby voice it was all over and the man ended up waiting with his adopted pet, on the side of the road with just an umbrella for Reiner and Marcel to drive by.

"How mean." He sulked, kicking at a rock. Kurama sniffed and whined, struggling to get out of his grip. "Don't leave me too."

The fox cub looked at him with what could only be described as annoyance.

He was eventually picked up and all was forgotten.

"Kicking him out wasn't too mean?" You ask, yawning and stretching. You had swapped with Porco and he was driving the last few hours back home.

Porco grimaced and shook his head. "It wasn't." He glanced to you and cracked a smile. "Wanna stop for a drink?"

You looked down at your phone and nodded. "Our last stop before home." Porco chuckled and nodded.

"Anywhere in particular?" He asked you, glancing at a service station.

"Preferably a cafe or something. I need a coffee to keep me going so I can unpack when I get home." You answered, typing on your phone to find a place.

"It's okay if you sleep now and then unpack." Porco reminded, only for you to shake your head.

"I'll probably still be too tired to do it." He sighed and smiled, letting it rest.

"Alright. Got a place?" He asked you, glancing at your phone. You hum, holding a finger up before nodding.

Placing your phone into the holder for the gps you start the journey. "About twenty minutes. And I've already told the others." You added.

He smiled and turned up the radio, the music and downpour pulling you into a relaxed state. "I'm really happy we met." You whispered.

"I'm sorry it took so long." He caressed your cheek.

"No because I don't know how we've never met before." You exclaimed. "I was friends with all your friends. And your enemies."

"Yeah it is really weird." He agreed. "Must be for plot reasons."

You laughed and nodded. He took a turn off the highway and the rain poured down heavier, reducing his visibility.

"Damn I hope it eases up." He muttered, straining his eyes to see through the haze of rain.

"Be careful." You warned, worried that you might crash. "Maybe we should pull over and let it calm down."

Porco was about to argue before he caught a glimpse of your anxious face. He nodded and pulled over immediately as you texted Colt and Marcel.

With a yawn, Porco ran a hand through his hair before he dropped his arm around the back of your seat. He toyed with a piece of your hair, humming to himself quietly.

You turned and smiled softly, leaning into his touch. "Wanna put some music on?" You asked, gesturing to the radio which had the usual show hosts chattering on about the political and economic state of the world.

With a smile, he nodded and hooked his phone up to the aux cord, scrolling and tapping away until he finally pressed play on a playlist. With '505' playing, the melody melting into the rain as Porco hummed along, fingers still playing with your hair.

Eventually the rain let up enough that it was okay to keep driving.

"Okay favorite tea?" You asked Porco, looking at the list on your phone.

He gave you a look, eyes narrowed. "What am I? 'Bri'ish'?"

You stared at him before nodding to yourself.

"Earl grey." He answered eventually. You nodded again. "What?" He glanced over with a laugh. Smothering your own chuckles you shook your head.

"You're an idiot."

"Hey, hey those are fighting words." He shot you a pretend hurt glance.

"My bad, my bad." You chuckled and held your hands up.

Getting inside the cafe without an umbrella resulted in Porco sacrificing his jacket and holding it over your heads as you sprinted inside.

Laughing and shaking off the rain that clung to your skin, the two of you made your way up to the register and ordered you favorite drinks and something to snack on.

Sitting down at a booth positioned across from Porco, the others walked in.

"Sir, I'm sorry but we cannot allow pets inside the establishment." You hear an employee say and you turned to see Colt clutching a shivering Kurama.

"Fine I'll go sit outside." He stomped off, opening the door violently before slamming it and sitting on the floor outside.

"So we'll take a caramel macchiato and a small flat white and a hot chocolate with a pump of peppermint." Reiner turned to the cashier who blinked and nodded. They sat with you and Porco, conversing about what they were going to do when they got home as you watched Colt and his fox sit outside, undercover.

"Order for Porco?" The workers called and he collected his and your drinks, gesturing for Marcel to move from beside you. His brother grinned and wrappen an arm around your shoulder.

"Up." Porco commanded, threatening to spill his coffee on his brother.

"You won't." Marcel rolled his eyes making Porco to raise an eyebrow challengingly. He tipped his cup a little further and Marcel scrambled to get up. "Freaking psycho." He muttered.

Your boyfriend sat beside you, handing you your drink and kissing your temple.

"Don't be too unpleasant." You berated, patting his cheek. Rolling his eyes he pulling you into his side.

"Reiner?" Reiner dragged his eyes away from you and Porco to go get his and Marcel's drinks. He returned Marcel's to the table before taking his and Colt's outside.

"Can we do another road trip one day?" Marcel asked with a wistful sigh.

"That'd be nice." You agreed, looking up to Porco who nodded.

"Yeah."

Eventually you were back in the car, driving despite Porco's insistence. The rain had eased up as you neared your city. The roads became even more familiar and a pit of disappointment formed in your stomach. You were half-tempted to turn around and just drive back, the fear of what would change if you were to return to your normal life.

"You alright, love?" Porco rested a hand on top of yours. His touch was reassuring.

Inhaling and putting on a weary smile you nodded, "I'm good."

"Good." He brought your hand to his lips, looking up at you with a smile. "Everything will be alright."

And perhaps it would be. The road trip may have ended but you knew that it was only the beginning of your relationship with him.
