Jimin's pov
Suga
That's how Taehyung called his brother, and ever since, Jimin couldn't get the word out of his head.
It must have been a coincidence, yet Jimin couldn't help himself, he put a note of it on his murder board, just in case. He's been busy day and night, working on multiple cases, taking care of files, and making sure he wasn't neglecting them whilst focusing on the CIA case.
It was stressful, nerve-wracking, Jimin didn't remember when was the last time he slept more than five hours/ night, but he was motivated. It kept him going, he wasn't going to fall a step behind. He tried not to think of it, he tried to ignore the fuzziness, sometimes replacing it with black coffee and cigarettes.
He would keep on going forward.
Luckily, he had Jeong-in help with most of the work. The apprentice was going to be an excellent detective one day, given his detail-oriented nature and the skills he possessed. Jimin had been thrilled to find out the officer was gifted when it came to IT and programming. He was sure the man was going to be very useful to their department in the near future, so he made sure to teach him all the tips and tricks a future detective needed.
An unpolished diamond. Jimin was going to take care of that himself.
After making this precious discovery, Jimin was struck by a brilliant idea. He asked Jeong-in to take a look over the maps and the codes printed on them, in hopes he would decipher the code behind them.
"Detective Park? May I?" Jeong-in pushed the door to his own office, late in the afternoon, just before Jimin's shift was about to end.
"Sure, come in."
"Alright, so... where do I begin...?" The officer didn't seem happy about the result, but Jimin was already used to bad news. "I don't want to disappoint you, but the maps don't seem to hide a specific cipher behind the letters."
Jimin put the files in front of him aside and gestured to the officer to take a seat in front of his desk. "Names, I thought they might be names. Was I wrong?"
"Actually, it could be code names or aliases, of course, there are lots of combinations there, but if they are using some kind of aliases that are known only between them, it's useless information. There's nothing that could actually help. Aliases or code names would be useful only if we had someone infiltrated on their side but like this..." He shook his head, disappointed.
Jimin thought of his words carefully. "But we had previously found a link, at the student dorm, right?"
"Yes, that's right. But the guy at the student dorm was named Sugar, well... nicknamed. The point is, they could have used that as a distraction."
"And the combination on the maps wasn't Sugar."
"Exactly. It was SUGA. It's the only clue that we have. Just in case, my colleagues are investigating this. It's hard to find someone nicknamed Suga in the entire Seoul, but it doesn't hurt to research this a bit." Jimin swallowed the lump in his throat, feeling something weighing on his chest.
Why did all of these clues lead to Taehyung? Why were they related? It was a coincidence. It couldn't be related. He met him several times, and nothing he did or said seemed suspicious to Jimin, in any way. Or... was it?
