Corrina's POV
I slowly opened my eyes and the bright white light blinded me. I held my hands above me until I could focus my vision again. I sat up and immedietly knew I was in the Nurse's Office. I closed my eyes and recaled what had happened before I had passed out and sighed. I hate this... I threw the white sheets off my body and thanked the nurse quietly before heading to my homeroom class. I passed a clock in the hallway and my eyes widened. Two Fifty! I have ten minutes till class ends and I'm just getting there now! The more I thought about an excuse to use I realized the the boy from before wasn't in the Nurse's room before.
I shuffled up the stairs and when I reached the door to my homeroom, the bell rang. I opened the door and watched as everyone packed their things. I dropped my head and through my bangs found Miss. Ichi still at her podeium. I came up to her and she held her hand up as I opened my mouth. "Oliver already told me why you were not in class. I'd ask him if he took good notes during class, alright?" She told me with a smile. I nodded and bowed deeply before quickly finding Oliver surrounded by girls. I held my head down and walked over to the side of his desk. "Oh, uhh? Corrina, right?" I looked up a bit surprised that he knew my name, but quickly looked back down in embarrassment. "Yea." I mubled lowly. I fidgeted my hands in front of me and swallowed. "Can I... have my... books back?" I slowly asked, trying to find the words that weren't coming out of my mouth.
I looked at Oliver through hooded eyes and saw him give me a small smile, to which all the girls still around him squealed. "Sure. I put them in your bookbag already." Oliver told me and held out the plain brown school bag to me. "Th-thanks..." I muttered. As I was about to take a step away, Oliver kept talking to me. "I took some good notes in Lit so if you want we can go to your house and you can copy them. I would give them to you, but we'll be having a quiz on the material tomorrow so..." I started freaking out in my mind. Oh my freaking christ! This is a nightmare! I've never brought anyone to my house before. What if everyone starts talking to me! I have to tell them to act like they would if I couldn't understand them but how am I supposed to do that on such short notice?! "Corrina?" Oliver calling my name shook me from my thoughts. "Um... su-sure." I said quietly. What am I saying?!
"Great! I'll meet you outside the front gate then?" I nodded but kept my head down so my bangs still covered up most of my face. "I hope you don't try making a move on him!" A girl told me pointedly as she approched me. I kept my head down but could tell that she was the last person in the room with me. The other girls had taken off after Oliver and everyone else was going to their lockers. "Look at me Bitch!" The girl snarled at me and lifted me up my my collar. I looked up at her with fear in my stomach and eyes. "Oliver-kun is going to fall for me. Got it!" She seethed. I quickly nodded and the girl threw me on the ground and walked out of the room. Why? Why did I have this happen to me. And on all days but today... I shook my head and lifted myself from the cold floor. I picked up my school bag and headed out into the quiet halls. I walked down the stairs and thought about today as I went to my locker.
"Hey Mommy? Why is Sissy lying in that room by herself?" A five year old me asked my teary eyed mother as she tightened her grip on my small hand. "She's sick, Darling. We won't be able to visit her for a long time." She told me sadly, trying to keep her already welling tears inside. I looked back at my sister Aurora, who was hooked up to a breathing machine and all kinds of tubes sticking to her. Suddenly something started beeping madly. A few nurses ran into the room and two more machines went off on a blinking and beeping rampage. "Somebody get the doctor!" One of the nurses yelled. My mother took off, leaving me there to watch the madness unfold. More nurses ran into the room as another machine went off. "Four... Five... Six... Seven..." I counted as finally the eigth machine went off. The only one left was the heart rate monitor. I peered at it with wide eyes as it suddenly strummed the same noise for a long time. "Where the hell is Doctor Peters?!" One of the other nurses yelled. "Get her ready for shock!" Another called and all of them went to work.
"I'm here!" Doctor Peters ran into the room. My mother was no where in sight. I watched through the glass as Doctor Peters manned the shocking machine and jolted my sister three times with electricity. The doctor shoved the machine aside and i saw tears well into his dark eyes. "She was a fighter..." He trailed off as a couple of the lady nurses tried to comfort him. I had witnessed at five years old how my sister died. I'll forever feel the guilt that all I did was sit there and not go with my mother to find Doctor Peters in any effort to save Aurora's life. She was twelve years old when she had died to Breast Cancer. I put back my books and pulled out the one's I had homework in and a couple subjects that I needed to study in.
I swung the two straps of my bag onto my back, like a backpack, and closed my locker before heading out to the main gate where Oliver would be waiting for me. As I neared the wall I could hear a bunch of girls all talking. I knew that would be him. "I wish you could walk me home, Oliver-kun!" A random girl in the crowd asked. "Ladies, ladies, calm down now. I wouldn't be a gentleman anymore if I didn't help her out." Oliver said and looked up, finally noticing me. I quickly put me head down and started walking toward my house. "See you tomorrow ladies!" Oliver called and ran up to me. "Hey, sorry about that. There just annoying fan girls, ya know?" He asked theoredicly as he put his hands behind his head and his elbows pointing to the sky.
"You sure don't talk much at all." Oliver stated flatly. It's not like I couldn't it just always felt weird to talk to people so I avoided them as much as I could. "Do you have any hobbies?" He asked, trying to make conversation. "I-uh... I read..." I muttered quietly and pulled my hands together in front of me and fiddled with my fingers. I always did that when I was nervous. I could speak an oral presentation in front of a class but that was about it. Everyone in school knew I kept to myself and they were content to stay away from me. "I could guess that by all the books you were carrying from before. I ment for fun!" He exclaimed at me so loud I looked up at him with wide eyes. "P-pl-please don't y-yell..." I told him quietly and put my head back down so my bangs covered my eyes.
We walked in silence for a few minutes and came up to my home's stone wall. Great! I hope Rica doesn't do anything stupid... But knowing her she will... I sighed and tapped in the four numbers to open the door. One...One... Zero...Seven... The door clicked and I opened it so Oliver could walk through the wall before me. "Who's there?!" I face palmed as I heard Rica growl at Oliver in front of me. I tapped Oliver and he turned and looked at me. I took the oportunity to pull out a cracker and bent down to Rica. "Calm down and don't do anything stupid. I need you guys to stop talking to me until he leaves." I said in the lowest tone I could muster for her to hear. She nodded and quickly took the cracker and ran off into the tree and bushes. "They seem to like you and not me..." Oliver pouted. "They just don't know you yet." I said more to myself than to Oliver as I stared after Rica.
