Tanjiro sat against a tree with a dazed look on his face, thinking of all the possible scenarios that could've saved F/n. Of course, he didn't know if she was actually dead yet, but it lingered in the back of his mind.
"Tanjiro-San...I think it's time you check.." Mitsuri muttered, sitting down next to Tanjiro. She put her hand on his back and gave him a guilty look.
She wanted him to go to the death grounds, where all the dead bodies were being sorted and sent off. The sending off part was on hold because of F/n's disappearance.
Tanjiro shook his head, "I cant, she cant be dead. She's strong." He groaned, tears falling from his eyes.
"I know..but they're gonna send the bodies away in the next couple of hours, you want to say good bye if she is dead, right..?"
Tanjiro sighed softly, wearing the saddest expression imaginable. He nodded slightly, "I guess.."
Mitsuri grabbed his hand and lead him to the death grounds. They walked through the rows of bodies, scanning for the all too familiar black and white features.
After ten minutes of searching, they came up with nothing, F/n wasn't there. Tanjiro had mixed feelings, of course he was glad she wasn't in the sea of dead bodies, but they still couldn't find her.
She could either be alive and hurting somewhere in the village, or dead but not found yet.
Tanjiro grabbed onto the nearest sword smith, "are you sure you've checked everywhere for F/n.." he asked desperately.
The sword smith sighed, "Yes, I'm sure. There's one house we cannot get into though, we're not aloud."
Tanjiro now held a surprised but angry expression on his face. "You're telling me...that we've searched everywhere but the place where she is most likely to be..?" He asked, gripping onto the smiths shoulders tighter.
"O-Ow..! I'm sorry, Tanjiro-Dono...! It's the oldest house in the village, none of us are allowed to go inside..!" He explained, wincing from the pain.
"Where the hell is that house.." Tanjiro asked, his voice booming over the poor sword smith.
The smith, shaking violently, pointed in the direction of one of the fighting sights. Where they had fought the emotion demon.
Tanjiro pushed off the sword smith and ran in the direction he pointed, looking for an old looking house.
The clean up crew had already roped off the scene. Tanjiro ducked under the ropes and continued running, the house slowly coming into view.
"Hey! You cant be in here, it's too dangerous!" One of the Kakushi yelled, now chasing after Tanjiro.
Tanjiro finally reached the door and pulled it open, light pouring into the dark house. He looked around desperately for his significant other, hoping not to find her dead.
He almost fell to his knees, in relief but also in sadness. He spotted F/n in a corner, sitting in a puddle of her own dried blood.
He ran over to her, immediately checking for a pulse. It was weak, but it was still there. Her body was close to freezing as he pulled her into his arms and wept, wept like he never had before.
His tears soaked into the pale skin of his lover, she had been holding her waist so tightly when she passed out that it was able to keep the bleeding from killing her.
The doors of the house opened again, a worried looking Genya and Mitsuri were standing in the door way panting. Muichiro was with them too, with his unfazed face.
Once Mitsuri saw F/n's state, she immediately thought the worst had happened. Tanjiro was sniffling and crying like crazy, barely even able to get out a few words without making those distressing hics.
"Tanjiro-San..! Is she..?" Mitsuri asked, tears falling from her face now too.
Tanjiro shook his head, hugging F/n tighter. "She's not..but she needs help ASAP" He said, standing up with F/n in his arms.
He carried her bridal style all the way to the medics, they stitched her stomach up and wrapped bandages around her tightly.
"We'll take her off your hands now T-"
Tanjiro cut them off, "No. I'm staying with her."
